The Student Court Letter of Interpretation April 29, 2011 All members of the E-Board and Senate, With the powers stated in the SGA Constitution Article VI.6.6 and the Judicial By-laws Section 2.A., on April 29, 2011 the Student Court has interpreted Article IV Section 3.a of the Senate By-Laws that states: “The senate pro-tempore shall be the ranking member of this committee.” With a unanimous vote of 3-0 with Chief Justice Harris D. Brown, Justice Alysha Sample, and Justice Darius Kelley, the Student Court has decided that the person appointed or chosen as the senate pro-tempore must at that time currently and must continue to maintain a senator title during the duration of being Senate Pro-Tempore. The Senate Pro-Tempore’s title is similar to the standing committee chairs’ titles. In the way that, in order to be chosen as a standing committee chair you must currently hold and continue to hold a senate position while holding the title as chair. The Senate Pro-Tempore oversees and assures that all of the administrative duties of the senate are met. Since he/she currently sits on the select committee, they may at the senate’s discretion not sit on another committee. He/she including the standing committee chairs must continue with their senatorial duties as mentioned in the Senate By-laws such as office hours, reports, etc. If you do not agree with this interpretation, you are free to file an appeal with the Student Court, which you will be notified within forty-eight (48) hours if the appeal was denied or accepted.
