Sakai Basics Sakai Basics Welcome to Sakai Course Home page Overview Your course home page provides a summary of important information about your course. • On the left side of the screen is the Course Navigation Tool bar. This menu contains the tools your instructor is using during the course. Each instructor uses a different set of tools, so the options here will change from course to course. • To the right of the course navigation bar is the Site Information area. This includes a brief course description. Many sites also include directions and links on how to get started with the course and where to find course materials. • In the right most column you will find your recent Course Announcements. Always look here when you access your course to find any important updates. • Below the Course Announcements area is the Message Center Notification area. This shows how many new messages have been sent and if there are any new posts in the Forums tool. The instructors can post reminders, links to external information, or messages for the entire class. The instructor can also send e-mail messages from this tool to inform the class participants of new announcements that have been posted In the right most column of the Welcome Page, you will find your recent Course Announcements section. Announcement Expanded View Sakai Basics Sakai Basics The Assignment Tool The Assignments tool allows instructors to post assignments to the course site. This tool also allows the participants to complete assignments and then submit them to the instructor through Sakai. In this area instructors will post the instructions for the assignment. 1. To enter the Assignments Tool, click on the Assignments link located in the left side navigation area. (Fig 1.) 2. To open an assignment, click on the Assignment Title (Fig 4.) Fig 4. Assignment List Once you have opened the assignment you will see the due date, the grading scale, the instructions for the assignment and an area to submit your assignment. (Fig 5.) 3. To submit your assignment, click the Choose File button. 4. Locate the document you wish to submit to the instructor. 5. Click the Submit Button. Fig 5. This can include Word Documents, PDF's, Power Points, Images, Videos, etc. 1. To enter the Resource Tool, click on the Resources link located in the left side navigation area. (Fig 1.) 2. Resource Tool Sakai Basics Sakai Basics The Forum Tool The Forum Tool allows participants in the course to discuss topics that the instructor and other participants have posted to the course. 1. To enter the Forum Tool, click on the Forum link located in the left side navigation area. (Fig 1.) 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. Click on the Title of the Topic you wish to respond to. (Fig 7.) To to post a new response, click on the Start a New Conversation button. (Fig 8.) To post a response to a Tread click on the Message title. Then click on the Reply to Initial Message button.
