JOB SUMMARY, MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, AND SELECTION CRITERIA
Beltrami County is accepting applications for its Seasonal Forestry Intern position. Required
minimum qualifications: enrollment in an accredited college or successful completion of a 2-year
degree with a focus of study on forestry or natural resources related field or, be enrolled in an
accredited curriculum with course work toward a degree in forestry/natural resources. Forest
measurement abilities and knowledge of dendrology, plant identification, habitat typing, aerial
photo interpretation, and land navigation/GIS skills. Ability to work in varied terrain and adverse
weather conditions and must possess a valid driver’s license.
The Seasonal Forestry Intern position is a temporary non-union position and employment would be
for a maximum 12-week period from late May - August. The hourly rate for this position is
$10.56/hour (2013 wage, final wage dependent on contract negotiations) Employment offer
contingent on passing drug screen.
Responsibilities include providing technical assistance to the NRM Department by completing
forest inventory plots and collecting forest inventory information including tree diameters, tree
heights, stand age, basal area, timber volumes, habitat type, site index, and insect and disease
damage. Other tasks may include regeneration surveys and assisting in timber sale establishment by
marking boundaries, individual tree marking, and cruising timber. For information regarding the
