Environmental Education Internship
The Ozark Natural Science Center (ONSC) is a non-profit environmental education center in Northwest
Arkansas. The mission of ONSC is to enhance the understanding, appreciation and stewardship of the Ozark
natural environment. ONSC is looking for summer environmental education interns to assist with our residential
programming in environmental education and field sciences. The position is designed for undergraduate college
students seeking entry-level and training experience in residential science programming and environmental
education.
Responsibilities
Interns will assist ONSC Teacher Naturalists and administrators in delivering quality summer science
programming. This includes assisting Teacher Naturalists with programs in natural history, conservation, and
field ecology, curriculum research and development, supervision of campers, hikes, and backcountry excursions.

Must be enthusiastic, motivated, and committed to serve ONSC and its mission.
Must be at least 18 years of age and have earned a high school diploma.
Must be able to work extended periods in inclement weather and in backcountry settings, able to lift
50 lbs., and able to lift and carry personal and group gear (i.e., backpacking setting).
Must be available for the duration of summer programming, staff training, and program wrap up at
ONSC from June 2, 2014 through August.
Must be pursuing a degree in environmental education, biology, ecology, geology, or other natural
science degree program.
Preference will be given to applicants who have experience working with children and have reached at
least the university sophomore level.
Basic First Aid and Community CPR certification is required.
Lifeguarding certification and canoeing proficiency is a plus.
A valid driver's license and submission to a criminal background check is required.
Compensation
ONSC will provide interns with on-site housing, meals (when food service is in operation), and a weekly stipend
of $200. Related training is provided during the internship. The intern is responsible for gaining the most out of
the internship and should take advantage of learning opportunities. College or university credit may be available,
but coordination will be the responsibility of the intern.
