TheCahabaEnvironmentalCenterisanewresidentialenvironmentaleducationcenter
affiliatedwithMcDowellEnvironmentalCenter.WearelocatedatLivingRiver,a440acrepropertyalongtheCahabaRiver.TheCahabaRiverisAlabama’slongestfree-flowing
riverandoneofthemostbiologicallydiverseriversintheUnitedStates.AttheCahaba
EnvironmentalCenter,schoolgroupsspend3-5daysonoursiteexploringthenaturaland
culturalhistoryofAlabamathroughcollaborative,hands-on,andinquiry-basedteaching
methods.
AsaCECenvironmentaleducator,youhavetheopportunitytosharethewondersofthe
naturalworldandcreateasenseofcommunitywithourparticipants!ACECeducator
fostersafunandsafelearningenvironmentforstudentsandfacilitateshands-onactivities
abouttopicssuchaswatershedscience,forestandstreamecology,NativeAmerican
cultures,andgeologicprocesses.ACECeducatoralsoleadseveningprogramsincluding
campfiresandnighthikes.Duringourfallseason,therewillbeopportunitytotakeon
independentprojectsthatmatcheducatortalentsandinterestsandsupportour
educationalprogram!
ACECenvironmentaleducatormustdemonstratecreativity,enthusiasm,maturity,
initiative,asenseofhumor,flexibility,andteamspirit!Aneducatorshowspassionfor
learningandteachingaboutthenaturalworldandhumanculturalhistory.Applicantsmust
holdabachelor’sdegreeinEnvironmentalScience,Education,orrelatedfield.Alleducators
musthavecurrentCPRandFirstAidcertificationandundergoabackgroundcheck.
Preferencewillbegiventothosewithpriorexperienceinenvironmentaleducation.
Compensationincludes$275perweekandroomandboard.CECeducatorswilllivein
sharedhousing.Educatorswillhavetheirownbedroomandshareabathroomwithone
otherperson.TheCECstaffhousewillhaveacommunitylivingspace,laundryfacilitates,
andakitchen.
