MATH 1060 Sec. 005 Textbook and Enhanced WebAssign Information
Textbook: Precalculus (Ninth Edition), by Larson. ISBN: 978-1-285-89421-8. This is a special edition edition for
the University of Utah. The regular edition (which does not have deleted chapters) is more expensive and has ISBN:
978-1-133-94901-5.
Homework: The weekly homework will be completed using Enhanced WebAssign. EWA gives you access to the an
electronic version of the textbook which can be viewed with an e-reader or any computer.
Regardless of which textbook option you choose, you MUST purchase WebAssign.
There are four main options for obtaining the textbook/WebAssign:
• Purchase from the campus bookstore:
1. Textbook + EWA access card for about $140. This is the full (loose leaf version) of the trig chapters and
the EWA access card. (ISBN: 978-1-285-89421-8).
2. EWA access card only (about $74).
• Purchase directly from the publisher http://www.cengagebrain.com/micro/1-19PC63P :
3. Textbook + EWA access code for about $130. This is the full (loose leaf version) of the algebra chapters
and the EWA access card. Select: “Bundle: Custom U of U Precalculus, 9th + Enhanced WebAssign
with eBook Printed Access Card for Math and Science.”
4. EWA access code (about $65). Select “Enhanced WebAssign Single-Term LOE Instant Access for PreCalculus and College Algebra, 1st Edition”.
• Additional Thoughts
There is a 14-day trial period for Webassign site and e-book at the start of the semester (In Fall 2013, the trial
ends Sunday, September 8th). To try the course, simply enroll in the as described below. At the end of the
trial period, your access to Webassign will be blocked until you purchase it as described above. “Trying out”
the course is also a good option if you are uncertain whether you want to purchase a textbook or use only the
e-reader.
If you purchase the access code through one of the above options, you can rent/buy/borrow your book elsewhere.
The Marriot library has copies of the textbook for short term loan.
If you are repeating a course (that used this edition of the textbook and WebAssign), you do not need to
repurchase WebAssign. Instead, follow the directions below (Part B) to enroll in the course for the new
semester.
To access WebAssign (for the online weekly homework AND for the e-book):
1. If you’ve never been on WebAssign, follow these steps:
(a) Go to www.webassign.net.
(b) Click on the “I have a class key” button.
(c) The class key for MATH1060-005, Fall 2013 is: utah 7345 2059.
(d) Create an account. WARNING: You MUST use your uID and password that you currently use for login
into Campus Information System when creating your WebAssign account!!!! (If you don’t follow this
crucial step exactly, you will create quite a headache for yourself and me, so please be careful to use your
exact uID and password that you use for CIS login.)
2. If you already have a WebAssign account THAT IS THE SAME LOGIN AS YOUR CIS USERNAME, follow
these steps. (If it is not, create a new WebAssign account, using your uID as explained in 1.)
(a) Follow steps (a)-(c) above.
(b) Once you have entered the Class Key, choose the “I already have a WebAssign account” option.
(c) Login with your uID and password (the same as for CIS).
Note: If you are retaking this MATH1060 class and you have purchased WebAssign access with the e-book previously,
you do NOT have to re-purchase WebAssign. It will allow you access to WebAssign and the e-book again with no
extra charge, but you still need this specific class key.
