Attendance Policy
Because this is a distance-learning course, attendance is not an issue. Turning assignments in as
indicated on your syllabus is your proof of progress and commitment. If you do not meet the first
assignment deadline, or keep up with the assignment deadlines, I will assume you do not wish to
stay in the class and may drop you unless you contact me. Remember ultimately you are responsible
to drop the class by the deadlines specified each term.
Deadline is defined as follows; homework and tests are expected to be completed and in my hands
by the stated deadline. The deadline applies to all assignments or tests. A minimum penalty of
10% will be assessed on work or tests submitted late. This is a minimum daily penalty. Tests
may not be accepted if turned in late.

When a test is scheduled you must take the test and have the test back to me by the stated deadline. I
will make the test available at least one week prior to the deadline. Students are responsible for
scheduling their test to allow sufficient time for me to get the test to the appropriate proctor and for
them to mail or return in my office for grading by the stated deadline. If you are using the US Postal
Service keep their delivery time in mind.
Tests will be taken in the Taft College Learning Resource Center, at the TCI Education Department,
or at a proctored site arranged with the instructor. Inform your instructor or TCI Education staff
when you are ready for a test and that test will be made available at the prearranged test site.
Students using US Postal Service to submit work must insure it is delivered no later than the date
due. The final exam and all chapter assignments must be in my hands by the date specified on the
calendar. All class work must be completed by the end of the semester to be included in your grade.

Due to construction:

Hello ,

BUS 32 Syllabus

Most of what I have for you in this brief orientation is covered in the syllabus. Your first assignment
is to read the syllabus completely and carefully.
In the syllabus you will find information regarding the required textbooks and workbooks depending
upon the course. Most texts are rented provided you or your representative personally checks them
out from the library. Rental textbooks are not available by mail.
Workbooks, as well as textbooks if you cannot rent them, must be purchased either from the
bookstore or any other source you identify. The bookstore phone number is 661-763-7731.
Testing will take place at the Learning Resource Center (LRC) at Taft College if you are in the
immediate area. If you are out of the Taft area and wish to take your exams at a proctored site you
must identify that site and the proctor. Contact me for the necessary forms. Appropriate proctors
could include the following: full-time schools or public librarians, guidance counselor/counseling
staff, full-time teacher, school principal or superintendent, seminary principal, IST officers,
corporate training officer, military base/station education officer, base commander you may identify,
subject to approval. All tests for the semester will be available at the LRC (763-7783). Make
appropriate arrangements as necessary. Tests are available 1 week prior to the due date. Make sure
you take my test and not other instructors. I will not accept them. Students using proctored
sites must notify me far enough in advance to allow mailing in both directions and still meet syllabus
deadlines. As time is critical early identification of a proctor site is essential.
As indicated by the syllabus you must submit any homework by US Postal Service or drop off at the
Learning Resource Center. Note the deadlines in the syllabus calendar allow for mail transit time. I
will enforce deadlines. Turn in your work for grade as you complete it. Do not wait! Attendance in
distance learning courses is defined as making regular progress. The only way I know if this is
happening is through homework and testing. Keep in touch.
If you wish to submit your homework as an e-mail attachment you must be able to deliver it in a
format that my college computer programs can read. I will also accept work via fax. Work will most
likely be returned via US Postal Service as time and equipment constraints usually prohibits
scanning or faxing graded work for return to you. Please arrange it with me in advance so we can
work out any details.
Steady regular progress is the key to success. You may work ahead and finish early.( If you wish to
take a test early you will need to have me approve it so communicate your interests as early as
possible) The dates in the date column are set when the assignments are due. Plan accordingly. The
syllabus addresses deadlines read it carefully. .
Insure that your name is on every assignment. Multiple page assignments should be stapled together.
However, DO NOT staple multiple assignments together as they must be separated into individual
assignments for grading, possibly resulting in misplaced or lost work.
If you have any questions please let me know I am looking forward to working with you.
