College Overview
Western Technical College is one of 16 Wisconsin technical colleges that make up the
Wisconsin Technical College System. Western is located in La Crosse, WI. We have
five regional locations in Black River Falls, Independence, Mauston, Tomah, and
Viroqua. Western offers many programs that lead to an associate of applied science
degree. These programs are in four divisions: Business, General Studies, Health and
Public Safety, and Industrial Technologies.

Department Overview
The community engagement department was new to the college in 2013. Its primary
purpose is to connect the college and community through service activities! The
community engagement department works with students, instructors, and community
organizations to identify opportunities for partnership whether it be for service-learning,
volunteerism, or relationship building. Through working together, Western can fulfill
community needs, provide personal enrichment education, and provide students with a
holistic, academic experience. During a student’s time at Western (which ranges from
only one term to five years), we hope they have several opportunities to serve their
community!
Position Summary
Assist the coordinator with responsibilities related to executing community education
events and services, supporting service-learning in the classroom, and volunteer
management.

Communicate, coordinate, and establish volunteer opportunities for Western
students to be engaged in the communities throughout our district. This includes but
is not limited to conducting 2-4 small group Service in Action programs and
collaborating with University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and Viterbo University on the
Tri-Campus Make a Difference Day event.
Attend the Coulee Region Volunteer Coordinators (CRVC) group meetings monthly.
Develop and execute annual events that recognize volunteers and encourage
community engagement. Events include but are not limited to National Volunteer
Week and the CRVC annual volunteer recognition breakfast.
Oversee the operations of the Cavalier Cupboard, student food pantry. This includes
running monthly and end of term reports, volunteer recruitment, training and
management, promoting the service, managing inventory, directing student access
and overseeing service-learning projects in conjunction to the cupboard. Attend the
community agency meetings quarterly, a committee of local food pantries.
Assist instructors whose classes are involved in volunteer activities.
Participate in College-wide activities.
Other duties as assigned.
