Everyfew yearsthe EducationCommitteeof the Boardof Regentsreviewsguidelinesfor theUW SystemSabbatical Program.Thepurposeof theguidelinesis to enablethe Boardto prioritiesfor institutionalsabbatical recommend decisions withoutcontinuallyrevisingthe policycontainedin AcademicPlanningStatement sabbatical #3.3(ACPS3.3), TheFaculty Program. Sabbatical At the December 4,2008 meeting,theEducationCommitteedecidedto maintainthe recommendations from the 2007-09guidelinesandto incorporateinto them the UW System's SharedLearningGoals,endorsedby the Boardof Regentsat the Decembermeeting. The UW SystemSharedLearningGoalsprovidea frameworkto communicatethe meaningandvalueof a collegeeducation parents, to students, andthe broadercommunity. Developedfrom extensive discussions amongfaculty and staff representing everyinstitutionwithin the Universityof WisconsinSystem,the five sharedlearninggoalsrepresent the synthesis andessence of the instructionalgoalsof thesevariousinstitutions.The UW SystemSharedLearningGoalsprovide supportto faculty,instructional,and academicstaffto be more intentionalin their teachingand learningactivities. S A B B A T I C AGLU I D E L I N E S For thebienniumcovering2010-12,the Boardof Regentsrecommends the followingto UW institutionsasthey determinetheir annualsabbaticalassignments: UW institutionsshouldcontinueto give consideration to projectsthat supportthe missionof the institution,in recognitionof the fact that sabbaticalleavesare supportedby the institutionandareto serveinstitutionalpurposes.
