E nv i ro n m e n t a l EducationTu rkey 2 015 The Wisconsin Center for Environmental Education in the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point College of Natural Resources is partnering with Bilkent University to offer an opportunity to study natural resources and environmental education in Turkey. This program offers a unique occasion for Wisconsin teachers to expand their global understanding of natural resources in Dalyan, Turkey, and to work with Turkish high school students and teachers, as well as graduate students. Dalyan is a small, historic village on the southwest corner of Turkey’s Mediterranean coast surrounded by pineclad hills, cotton fields, and miles of untouched coastline. The program will be led by Dr. Becca Franzen, from UWSP, and Dr. Jennie Lane, former director of the KEEP Program and currently a faculty member at Bilkent University. Requirements: To participate in this program, you must be a Wisconsin K-12 teacher. You will be required to attend a pre-program orientation in May, 2015. While in Turkey, participants will travel to Dalyan and experience a week-long field course. Itinerary: This program will cover seven days (plus two air travel days); nine days total. You can expect the itinerary to include some of the following activities: river study and analysis, bird population and studies; sea turtle monitoring; study of geological systems; and application to the K-12 classroom. Program Details: When: June 15-24, 2015 Program Benefits: Food, lodging, entrance fees, incountry transportation for the nine-day program plus two graduate credits. Program Costs: $1,290 plus international flight (valued at $1,790 but reduced for educators due to support from the WCEE). Graduate Credits: 2 credits included in cost (NRES 610).
