Minutes: Monday January 27, 2014, 3:00 p.m.

Present: Georges Cravins (chair), Jennifer Docktor (secretary), David Hart, Betsy Knowles,
Pamela Morris, Darci Thoune, Julie Weiskopf
I.
Minutes of December 4, 2013 meeting were approved. 5/0/1
II. Georges, Jennifer, and Betsy reported on the GEC meeting from December 2.
III. Discussed pending Form As and consultations with specific departments (Political
Science, Finance, Art, Philosophy, and Microbiology).
IV. Georges will send a notification to departments about Form Bs. The tentative due date
for Form Bs is February 14.
V. Discussed future meeting dates. Friday meetings will be 12:00-1:00 p.m. and Monday
meetings will be 3:00-4:00 p.m. Dates: February 7, February 24, March 10, March 28,
April 14, April 25, and May 9.
VI. Discussed assessment-related changes being proposed by GEC (they have re-written the
six categories to sound like SLOs and eliminated the sub-categories).
a. In what ways will this change affect GEAC’s process of reviewing forms?
Does the submission form need to be changed and/or do the policies and
procedures for reviewing Form As need to change?
b. What additional documentation will be provided to course instructors to
support them in “unpacking” these broader SLOs?
c. Recommend that GEC consider changing the wording of SLO 3 (the word
engagement is not parallel to the other SLOs and may be difficult to
assess).
VII. Discussed the current 3-year cycle format for assessment. The current cycle is not
conducive to fostering a culture of assessment. A two-year cycle would better align with
biennial assessment reports required by colleges.
VIII. At the next meeting Betsy will provide additional information / training about
evaluating Form Bs.
IX. The next meeting will be February 7.
