2012-13 Annual Report, Articles & By-laws Committee The Faculty Senate Articles and By-laws Committee met twice during the past academic year, once in person and once electronically. The details of these meetings are as follows: 1. The organizational meeting was held Wednesday, August 29, in room 3104 Centennial Hall. The meeting was convened by the undersigned, Donald Sloan. Other committee members present were Curtis Czerwinski, Aileen Staffaroni, and R. Daniel Duquette. Committee member Anne Galbraith was excused, since she was acting as convenor for another Faculty Senate Committee that was meeting at the same time. At the meeting, Donald Sloan was elected Chair of the committee. It was agreed that, consistent with past practice, members would rotate the secretarial duties. The committee received no charge from the Senate Executive Committee for the fall semester. 2. On March 1, 2013, the committee received its first and only charge of the year from Senate President Steven Senger. The charge involved a provision regarding online instruction that had been adopted by the Senate in March of 2010, stating that departments would be responsible for determining the format of courses to be offered, including whether the courses would be online. At the time this policy was adopted, no provision was made for its placement in the Senate by-laws. The SEC recommended that the committee approve the addition of this by-law to IV.A.4, a section regarding the responsibilities of academic departments. This recommendation was distributed to committee members by email, and it was approved unanimously (5-0) without the need for an in-person committee meeting. No further business came before the committee before the end of the academic year. Submitted, Donald E. Sloan Committee Chair
