Organization for Campus Spring Newsletter omen April 2015 Writing Mothers Back into History (OCW Spring Symposium) OCW welcomed author Jodi Vandenberg-Daves to the Spring Symposium on April 2nd for a presentation and discussion of her new book, Modern Motherhood: An American History (Rutgers University Press, 2014), the first synthesis of the history of mothers and motherhood in the United States. The presentation explored what it means to write mothers back into history. Jodi Vandenberg-Daves is a historian and professor of Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies at University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. In addition to her book, Modern Motherhood, she has also edited and coauthored the book Making History: A Guide to Historical Research Through the National History Day Program (ABC -Clio Schools, 2006) as (Continued on page 2) Congratulations to our new leadership for 2015/2016! Jodi teaches courses on women’s history, women’s diversity, and women’s leadership at UW-L, as well as coordinating internships for Women’s Studies students and working as a faculty intern in the area of grant development for faculty and staff. She has also worked with area teachers, directing grants to enhance the teaching of history in schools. She has taught career development classes for the Small Business Development Center and has conducted research on professional women in the Coulee Region. Jodi is past recipient of the YWCA Tribute to Outstanding Women in the area of Education. Foss and Norene A. Smith Organization for Campus Women Scholarship was established in 1985 to assist non-traditional female students at UW-L. Criteria to be considered include: female, 25 years or older; enrolled or accepted for admission at UW-L; and financial need. Scholarships are awarded annually during the UW-La Crosse Student Scholarship and Award Reception and paid to the students for the following academic year. A total of $7050.00 in scholarship money will be awarded to eight students for the 2015/2016 academic year.
