Sometimes it feels like nothing short of winning the lottery jackpot and hiring someone else to run our lives will work to get finances in order. Improve your financial life with these simple, 5-minute activities.

Take a break: Financial wellness.

Review your bills before paying them. Check medical bills, utility bills (cell phone, cable), and credit card bills for unauthorized or recurring charges that may be mistakes.

Balance your checkbook. Avoid overdraw charges by reconciling! There’s an app for that.

•  

Review the fees on your mutual funds. Front-end loads, back-end loads, management/operation fees, 12b-1 fees: how much are you paying to save for your future?

•  

Stop and think before you buy. Do I really need what I’m buying? Is there a less expensive alternative? Hesitation before you purchase could save you a lot of money.
