STUDENT STAFF POSITIONS “The students at Desk manager UW-Stevens Point teach The desk manager (DM) is an undergraduate student who works directly under the residence hall director and is responsible for front desk supervision, maintenance reporting, administrative duties and purchasing hall desk supplies. me something new each day, and I love being in a place filled with learning and engagement. The combination of all these things makes UW-Stevens Point truly feel like my home.” Community adviser The two community advisers (CAs) per floor share floor responsibilities, such as building floor community, programming, academic mission support, duty rotation, crisis management, peer advising, social activity planning and desk responsibility. Living learning community academic resource and interest coordinator The living learning community academic resource and interest coordinator (LLC ARIC) serves as a peer academic resource for all members of the living learning community, helping students focus on a successful transition within and to the university environment, encourage students to integrate in-class instruction with out-of-class experiences. Our school is one that genuinely cares about the success and well-being of students and it is awesome to be a part of that each day.” The Residence Hall Director’s primary responsibilities are the welfare and development of the students within the residence hall. To promote these, RHD’s main responsibilities are: Administrative/Management Academic Support Direct the overall operation of the residence hall Promote an environment conducive to academic success, development and learning Provide vital leadership and communication among residence halls, the Department of Residential Living, the Division of Student Affairs and the university community Attend regularly scheduled professional staff meetings, professional development programs and facilities quad meetings Maintain regular communication or correspondence with administrative services, custodial and maintenance functions, dining services, campus activities and protective services Support the academic mission of the university by helping to establish learning communities in the residence halls Assist community advisers (CA) in the assessment of residents’ academic needs Interact regularly with faculty mentor and facilitate student/faculty interactions Meet with students on academic probation to provide resources and guidance Facilitate the resolution of facility concerns, maintenance, repairs and cleanliness Counsel students having personal, academic, lifestyle and career concerns when appropriate Develop and monitor the hall budgets to ensure funds are used properly Supervisor/Adviser Perform purchasing function for the hall using a university-issued p-card, Trig’s card, purchase order or online method; reconcile transactions Perform duties on one of the following committees: professional development, staff selection, hall director marketing and recruitment, student leader training, social justice issues (other committees created as needed) Perform administrative tasks in accordance with established Residential Living procedures and deadlines Participate in an on-call duty rotation for assigned coverage area in which student crises are addressed Maintain an accurate record of hall occupancy at all times, reporting any changes, discrepancies or concerns to the central office within one business day Select, train, supervise and evaluate the desk manager (DM) and community adviser (CA) staff Supervise and evaluate the living learning community academic resource and interest coordinator (LLC ARIC) Advise hall government and other student volunteer groups Plan and facilitate weekly student staff meetings to coordinate initiatives, information exchange and staff team development Meet individually on a regular basis with staff members to discuss community issues and concerns as well as monitor progress of the staff member Create opportunities for team building, interaction and cooperation between the residence hall staff and hall government Analyze and use EBI data to improve the student experience Community Development Coordinate the development of meaningful goals, programs and policies for the hall to meet the students’ developmental needs Encourage residents’ active participation in hall governance Communicate, explain and clarify university and hall policies Encourage students to assume responsibility for behavior and decisions affecting their community Serve as the primary conduct officer for the hall; adjudicate student concerns and maintain accurate records utilizing the Maxient system Maintain a secure, satisfying physical environment Support and attend activities planned and implemented by the hall staff and government Compensation and benefits • 12-month base salary of $32,000 • Board plan for the academic year (partial board plan available for spouses and children) • Furnished two-bedroom, air-conditioned apartment • Department issued iPad • Full health care benefits (dental and vision insurance available) • Domestic partner benefits • Retirement program benefits • Pet policy allowing dog or cat • All-access athletic event pass Support community development efforts by being visible within the hall • Storage room Foster an environment which promotes and supports diversity • Professional development plan available • Laundry machines are provided in apartment storage room RESIDENTIAL LIVING ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE Residential Living is comprised of three functional areas: administrative services, building services and community developmental and education. The administrative services area of Residential Living is responsible for handling a wide range of services,including housing assignments, occupancy reports, purchasing, billing, budget management, financial reporting, publications, marketing, social media, contract administration and staff support. The building services area of Residential Living is responsible for maintaining safe, attractive, clean, functional and comfortable residence halls for our students and staff who reside in them. The appearance of our halls not only reflects our maintenance programs, but also how we, as a department, value our students. Only through a commitment of regular maintenance,timely repairs and scheduled cleaning do we deliver a good impression that lasts. The purpose of the community development and education (CD&E) area of Residential Living is to provide a staff who encourages a positive living and learning environment, supports students in making a successful transition to the university community and assists them in accessing university resources. Community development and education provides students in the halls with academic support, enhanced opportunities for personal growth in a community that promotes the development of citizenship, leadership, respect and appreciation for diversity.
