Updated Tools for Video
Conferencing and Video
Capture: Become a
Jabber Junkie and My
Mediasite Pilot
by Terry Wirkus and
Kenny Jessen
Learn how you can incorporate the
use of your iPad in your classroom
teaching.
Learn how the virtual desktop
environment works and how the
same computer classroom/lab
Windows 7 desktop and software
applications can be utilized on or offcampus using your computer or
mobile device with a fast Internet
connection.
UW-La Crosse has made major
improvements to its video
conferencing services. To make video
conferencing as ubiquitous as picking
up the telephone, Cisco Jabber is
now available to faculty and staff.
This desktop videoconferencing
solution is similar to Skype but it is
standards-based -- meaning it is
compatible with and compares in
quality to the equipment in our
distance learning classrooms. Bring
your laptop or iPad to this session.
Become a Jabber Junkie!
In the second half-hour of this
session you will learn about pilot
project to test and explore the My
Mediasite module for computer
desktop capture and video upload
and management. This tool can
empower faculty, staff or students to
create and share video, lectures,
training modules or assignments
wherever they are. My Mediasite is a
friendly launch pad for users to
record, upload, manage and publish
their own video content. It could be a
key element to "flipping the
classroom!"
