Shekleton honored with state award
NEW HAMPTON - The New Hampton Industrial Corporation (NHIC) entertained about 135 guests and honored local industries at a reception. The annual gathering was held at the Pinicon last Monday.
The highlight of the evening was the presentation of a state award to a local resident.
Jane Shekleton, owner of Janey Lynn's Designs was awarded the 2006 Deb
Dalziel Woman Entrepreneur of the year by the Iowa Small Business
Development Center (SBDC). SBDC is an outreach arm of Iowa State
University's College of Business.
According to a SBDC press release, Shekleton was nominated and selected for the award because she exemplifies the tenacity, spirit and character displayed by successful entrepreneurs.
The award is named in memory of Deb Dalziel who was director of the SBDC at
Burlington from 1987 until her death from cancer in 1999 at the age of 44. The award is made annually to a worthy Iowa woman.
Economic Development Director, Bob Soukup also cited several local firms who expanded or increased employment the past year. He also indicated additional renovations or expansions are in the works for the coming year.
