CEDAR FALLS -- The number of tenure-eligible minority and female faculty
members at Iowa’s public universities is at an all-time high, according to an Iowa
state Board of Regents report.
Out of the 3,641 tenure-eligible faculty members at the University of Iowa, Iowa
State University and the University of Northern Iowa that in 2005-2006, 540
were minorities. Of that number, 233 are at UI.
Women accounted for 1,096 of tenure-eligible faculty, with 478 of them at UI.
Tenure is a contractual employment status under which faculty appointments are
continued indefinitely.
