ISU celebrates 150 years of excellence in agriculture

AMES - The College of Agriculture at Iowa State University will mark 150 years of excellence in agriculture with the kickoff of the university's yearlong sesquicentennial today at VEISHEA.
"We have a rich heritage and an exciting future," said Wendy Wintersteen, dean of the College of Agriculture.
"We're proud to celebrate 150 years serving Iowa and the world."
In 1858 the Iowa Legislature chartered the Iowa Agricultural College and Model
Farm.
As a land-grant institution, Iowa State was founded primarily to rovide practical education in agriculture and mechanic arts.
"Today, the College of Agriculture is one of the world's leading institutions of agriculture, providing leadership in science, education and extension,"
Wintersteen said.
Iowa State's 150th birthday bash will span an entire year, starting with today's
VEISHEA celebration and continuing through spring 2008.
