Action Items

The following action items were derived from broad-based planning sessions held over a twoweek period in Spring 2015. Through these open planning sessions, Calhoun faculty and staff discussed the four strategic initiatives outlined in the College’s Strategic Plan:

 Teaching/Learning

 Technology/Innovation

 Completion/Graduation

 Community/Development

This process encouraged candid discussion and sharing of diverse perspectives. Through these meetings, ideas were collected and prioritized leading to numerous action items to be accomplished during the 2015-16 academic year. All of these action items will lead to improvements in academic, student support, and administrative areas of Calhoun Community

College.

Teaching and Learning

Action Item

 Set Departmental Standards for reading

Coordinate QEP and Instructional Professional Development

Develop and implement e-learning orientation / prep course

Develop evaluation system for Distance Learning courses

Implement Office 365 for students

 Increase communication between IT and staff. Assign Faculty

Senate Task Force to work with IT concerning technology barriers

Implement Fast Track Academy (ENG, MTH, RDG)

Investigate the need for minimum standards in computer skills

Track CTE Dual Enrollment students for matriculation to

Calhoun and Calhoun’s Developmental Education courses

Establish “Sharing Day” for best practices from conferences at college assemblies.

Develop separate faculty and staff tracks for Professional

Development.

Develop Professional Development activities around communication.

Create a Best Practices Library for faculty.

 Use Achieving the Dream survey data to identify Professional

Development needs.

 Establish strategies for Professional Development for adjunct faculty.

 Conduct open meetings with architects to develop master plan to include flexible learning spaces (includes new, existing and outside spaces).

Revise and evaluate pre requisite process and share among all departments.

 Increase reverse transfer

 Award letters from President to all students with 30 hours or more

 Market the value of an A.S. Degree to employers, students and the community

Investigate the possibility of lowering course limits for courses required for graduation
