The Men of Delta Sigma Phi, Zeta Lambda www.dspzl.org LAMBDA CHI ALPHA The brothers of the Theta Kappa chapter of Lambda Chi Alpha would like to welcome you to Rose-Hulman and take this great opportunity to introduce you to the Rose-Hulman fraternity system. Greek life may not be for everyone, but we encourage you give it an honest chance to decide for yourself. First, we would like to provide you with some background information about our organization. Lambda Chi Alpha is one of the largest general fraternities in North America with over 250,000 initiated members at over 300 universities. In addition, Lambda Chi Alpha is a forerunner in the fight against hazing with its Associate Member program. This program eliminates the pledge process ensuring that new members are treated like brothers with the ability to hold office positions and vote in governing matters. Associate Membership does not include any extra tasks that would not be asked of an initiated brother. Lambda Chi Alpha provides a great environment to better leadership skills, with over a dozen different offices. Each member has a voice in the chapter’s decisions. Brotherhood is the base of Lambda Chi Alpha. Our fraternity is a place where you will build friendships that you will cherish for a lifetime. All of us are willing to lend a hand on anything from homework to a house improvement. When the work is done, everyone is ready to relax and have a good time! Involvement in campus activities is another thing that our group enjoys. Lambda Chi Alpha holds a number of recent Greek Games titles, and enters at least one team in each of the intramural events. If you enjoy a particular sport, you will have an opportunity to pursue it here. We understand that enrollment at Rose requires an emphasis on academics to be successful and respond with programs that help ease the burden. We currently have numerous scholarships in place to help encourage a high degree of academic achievement. There is also a “brother’s keeper” program which pairs up brothers with similar classwork to help any struggling member. The academic success of all the brothers is one of our top priorities! The men of Lambda Chi Alpha believe in giving back to the community. Our largest event is “Run for Kids Sake” in which we raise over $1000 annually to give to Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Vigo County. Each year, we hold a Christmas Party for underprivileged children in Terre Haute, providing them with gifts, refreshments, and entertainment. We also participate in Meals on Wheels and the local library’s homework help program weekly. In addition we raised over 1000 pounds of food for local charity functions in our annual North American food drive. We all have a great sense of pride in our fraternity. This pride recently resulted in a joint effort between the actives and the alumni, which enabled us to fund and perform an impressive house renovation that continues to improve as year after year. This effort and dedication has earned us recognition amongst our national headquarters and other Lambda Chi Alpha chapters. In addition to that, we have set up a scholarship program in which to reward members for their fraternal achievements. While we place an emphasis on academics and involvement, there is nowhere else to be when it comes to having fun. Our annual Pig Roast provides a perfect atmosphere to socialize with friends and meet new people. We also plan other parties throughout the year such as our Luau, where the Chapter Room was turned into a beach-sand and all. Although we never turn down an invitation, Lambda Chi Alpha isn’t all about parties. We also have canoe trips, group movies, and other brotherhood events meant to strengthen the bond of our fraternity. Social events with local sororities are common and always prove to be a goodtime. Our group wishes you luck in your experience at Rose, and once again we request you give Greek Life a chance. We look forward to meeting you during rush. Sincerely, The Men of Lambda Chi Alpha PHI GAMMA DELTA The Men of the Rho Phi chapter of Phi Gamma Delta at Rose-Hulman welcome you to Rose-Hulman and the fraternity system. Choosing a fraternity will be one of the most important decisions you make this year, and we would like to help you make the right choice. The friends that you will make in your pledge class and throughout our chapter brotherhood will last a lifetime, as will all the memories you experience while at Rose-Hulman. The knowledge and respect you will garner when you pledge Phi Gamma Delta will help sustain you as a Rose-Hulman student and as you journey through life. Our pledge pin is a white star, with each of its five points symbolizing an important value: FRIENDSHIP brings us together and is the basis of our brotherhood. KNOWLEDGE is the primary reason our brothers come to college. SERVICE represents our obligation to give back to the campus and community that surrounds us. MORALITY is our commitment to do what is right and to strive to be gentlemen of quality. EXCELLENCE is the achievement of the total potential of our chapter and of each brother. Becoming a part of Phi Gamma Delta makes you part of our International Fraternity with chapters from coast to coast and in Canada. When you wear the badge or letters of Phi Gamma Delta, you are assured that you have friends and brothers worldwide who can come to your aid if need be. In addition, your pledge brothers and the chapter brothers you befriend throughout your four years here will be forever loyal and will sacrifice for you, just as a true brother should. The knowledge you gain in your classes at RHIT is important to your academic and future professional career. Likewise, the knowledge and values you gain as a Rose Fiji will remain essential in your daily life. There are no books or formulas that can prepare you for the real world. Your experience as a Fiji and your dedication to our values will help to prepare you for life beyond these college walls. The fraternal background and helpful knowledge that you will attain throughout your pledgeship will help you to make the correct decisions and prepare you for some of the adversities you will face in the future. The friends that you make during your four years and the contacts you make with Rho Phi brothers out in the professional world will open windows for future career opportunities. Being a brother in Phi Gamma Delta has benefits that will serve you well all the days of your life. Our chapter house is located at 1121 S. 6th Street, and is set on a beautiful lot. In addition to our house, our property also contains a chapter area that houses a pool table, large furnished recreation room, and a bigscreen TV. In addition, we have a large space in the back of the property complete with a height-adjustable basketball goal, a horseshoe pit area, and plenty of room for cornhole. Every living space on our property has wireless capacities. We live in the middle of a college town, performing the work of RHIT students, while also being able to mix socially with ISU Greek organizations as well as our fellow Greeks on the Rose-Hulman campus. We find it a great mix that helps keep balance in our lives and gives us a break from the daily stress of classes. Your decision to pledge a fraternity is an important one, and we strongly encourage you to carefully consider all factors. We at Phi Gamma Delta live our motto— FRIENDSHIP, THE SWEETEST INFLUENCE—on a daily basis, and we believe that people are what really matter: people to work with, people to have fun with, people to face adversity with, people to enjoy life with. Becoming a Fiji will group you with people who will become your brothers, and will sustain and support you through your four years at Rose and long after. We pride that we have very close bonds of brotherhood formed through an exciting pledging process and throughout the time we spend with each other. At Theta Xi, our number one priority is the academic success of our members. When we’re not in class, you can usually find us studying in the computer labs. Our other priorities include meeting new people, serving our community, and developing respectable members of society. We often spend a lot of time relaxing at the house playing games or watching movies. The Kappa Chapter house is located off campus at the intersection of 6th and Park streets, providing a welcoming and comfortable home base convenient to downtown Terre Haute. Benefits of living at the house are numerous, including that our beautiful, turn-of-the-century house is spacious and can comfortably support Theta Xi in its twelve bedrooms. In addition to being significantly cheaper than on-campus living, the house provides an excellent environment for personal studies and leisure. We also have a full kitchen and ample public space for social functions and lounging. We hope to meet all of you during our exciting Rush season. Our ultimate goal is to create a comfortable and welcoming environment for individuals of all backgrounds. We hope you are able to come to some of our rush events, and that you enjoy learning about Rose-Hulman’s fine Greek system. These are encouraged through: Study sessions weekly Quarterly banquets for good grades Triangle The Men of Triangle would like to welcome you to Rose‐Hulman and invite you to take a look into our Fraternity. We take pride in the strength of our chapter here and believe Triangle helps every man who joins to develop academically, socially, and professionally. Along with this personal growth, the men of Triangle form enduring friendships that continue far beyond the short time here at Rose. Triangle is a fraternity of engineers, scientists, and architects dedicated to the development of its members and the improvement of its brotherhood. This is evident in everything we do. For the past ten years, the Rose‐Tech chapter of Triangle has been ranked the top Triangle chapter nationally. Diversity is also a chapter quality highly value. As a result, we have members involved in a variety of clubs, varsity sports, and club sports. Frequently, these members also serve as leaders in the organizations with which they participate. In fact, during the past few years we have had members serving as President , Treasurer, and Community Service Chair for the American Society of Civil Engineers, President of the National Society of Black Engineers, President of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, President of American Society of Biomedical Engineers, President of the Best Buddies program, President of Habitat of Humanity, Head Co‐Chairs of the Career Fair Team, Captains of the Baseball and Soccer teams, and many other positions in countless other clubs and organizations. To balance our involvement on campus, we have made a distinct effort to be involved with several philanthropic events each year to give back to our community. We held a pancreatic cancer dinner for students and faculty to attend to help raise money for cancer research. We also organized SADD games, an event where over 70 local middle school students participated in a program to teach them the consequences of destructive decisions. Triangle brothers also participate in smaller events such as RHIT’s Day of Service, The Walk to End Alzheimer’s, and Homecoming Campus Beautification. The success and strength of our fraternity can be traced back to our pledge program. This is a program through which every member must pass in order to become an active member of the fraternity. It can be demanding in its time commitment, but we pride ourselves in its thoroughness. After completing the program, our pledges have been entirely integrated in to the fraternity and have developed a bond that qualifies them as a brother to every member in the fraternity. Even before the completion of the pledge program, a wide range of activities and benefits are available. One important benefit of the fraternity is the wealth of resources brothers have academically. Older members and fellow classmates are always nearby and willing to help explain material or work through the homework together. We pride ourselves as being one of the top academic fraternities here at Rose - Hulman. One of the most enjoyed benefits is the social activities we regularly organize. We have many social events during the course of the year in order to relax, step back from the rigors of Rose‐Hulman, and enjoy fellowship with our brothers. Another great time to develop friendships has been over school breaks. This past year Triangle Brothers traveled all over the U.S. Some went to Florida to lie on the beach, some went on the annual ski trip to Colorado, and some went to Utah to camp, raft, and mountain bike. Our house is located on the east side of campus, and can be easily identified by the Delta T on the side. In the early 2000’s we completed a 1.2 million dollar renovation on our house. This renovation increased the capacity of the house, added an entertainment room, and relocated the study room. A committee of Triangle brothers are currently laying out financial and construction plans for new renovations to come soon in the future We also receive a yearly grant from Triangle Nationals to improve our study room. We look forward to meeting all of you. Rush is an excellent opportunity for us to get to know you and for you to meet all the fraternities. Again, we encourage you to look into each fraternity so that you might find that group of men you can call brothers and life‐long friends. T R I A N G L E
