Course Title: ITC 536 Integrating the Internet for Educators 3 s.h; 3.c.h. II. Course Description: Students will discuss a variety of Internet options and how to effectively integrate them into the curriculum. Students will examine the history, theory, communication facilities, and educational activity structures relevant to the process within a standards based educational setting. The Internet will be the primary resource examined. Prerequisites: ITC 514 and 525 or permission of the Department III. Course Rationale: The Internet is transforming today's classrooms by opening communication beyond the walls of the classroom and allowing both teacher and student to actively participate within the "global village." No longer relegated to passive observation, today's schools have the potential to elevate the educational process to a national as well as international level through access to a plethora of information resources. These information resources include people as well as data. The telecomputing phenomenon offers enormous benefits to the trained educator who is prepared with the skills of network navigation and curricular application. IV. The students demonstrate their interpersonal skills during class discussions and working on small group projects. The students discuss a variety of Internet related issues and criteria that are used by teachers in determining methods, and strategies for teaching and learning. This course introduces students to the trends and issues specific to the integration of the Internet into the curriculum. Students are required to prepare reflective pieces for each activity and project in the course. Information concerning the integration of multicultural issues using the Internet is discussed in this course. The use of the Internet as an organizational and course management tool is discussed. V.
