Option 1: stay within the Cross-Greenside book.
Cover Chapters 5, 6, parts of 7-11, and some lectures on analysis of spatiotemporal data.
Option 2: Cover Chapter 5, discuss spatiotemporal data analysis, discuss some details of the amplitude equation formalism, but spend time discussing networks and self-organized criticality.
Some other variation?
Also: projects or more lectures?
At the Blackboard: Amplitude Equation for a
Single Fourier Mode
Gives existence and stability of stationary solutions to lowest order.
A surprise: translational symmetry in the extended coordinates implies that only a pitchfork bifurcation can occur near onset.
