****Rowan Technical &Community College—VOCATIONAL**** *Any student that takes 2 or more vocational classes during their high school career will be taking the KOSSA test (Kentucky Occupation Skills st nd Assessment). *ALL RTC courses MUST be taken for 1 and 2 periods (6 terms) for a total of 3 credits. Enrollment into these courses is only determined once RTC’s adult population has been confirmed. 1500: Welding Grade Level: 12 3 Credits The welding program at Rowan Technical College provides students with basic knowledge and skills including oxygen-acetylene, brazing and cutting, and shielded arc welding. High school students who successfully complete welding will receive credit if they return to the vocational school as post-secondary students. 1501: Carpentry Grade Level: 12 3 Credits The Carpentry program at Rowan Technical College offers the student instruction and training in areas of job safety, building site layout, foundations, floor and wall framing, ceiling and roof framing, interior and exterior finish, blueprint reading, as well as other necessary components of the carpentry profession. Instruction is presented in classroom settings and hands-on laboratory and on-site training. Students should be juniors or seniors. Priority will be given to currently enrolled returning students. 1502: HVAC Grade Level: 12 3 Credits Installing and servicing heating, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment is the focus of this program. Academic courses, theory courses, and laboratory experiences are designed to promote success in the air conditioning field. 1503: Electrical Technology Grade Level: 12 3 Credits The electrical technology program focuses on preparing students for entry-level electrician positions in industry and the building trades. The study of electrical theory and practical application of that theory provides the foundation of this program. Laboratory and classroom instruction include such topics as blueprint reading, motor controls, and residential wiring. Construction Electricity concentrates on residential electrical construction, and industrial electrical construction. 1504: Diesel Technology Grade Level: 12 3 Credits The skills needed to analyze malfunctions and repair, rebuild and maintain construction equipment, agriculture equipment, or medium and heavy trucks are emphasized in this program. Students are provided instruction and experience in systems such as diesel engines, fuel injection, onboard computers, transmissions, steering and suspension, and brakes. 1505: Automotive Technology Grade Level: 12 3 Credits Instruction in systems such as engines, fuel, on-board computers, transmissions, steering, suspension, and brakes is the basis for the program. 1506: Machine Tool Technology Grade Level: 12 3 Credits Prerequisite: Algebra II Math Level----Work activities in machine shop involve applying knowledge of machine capabilities, the properties of materials, and shop practices to set-up and operate various machines. The skills needed to position work pieces, adjust machines, and verify the accuracy of machine functions and finish products are taught by classroom instruction, demonstration, and hands on experience. 1
