Standard 6: Unit Governance and Resource Exhibit Facilities, Computer Labs, Curriculum Resource Center BEEKEY EDUCATION CENTER - Primarily Elementary, Secondary and Special Education programs Beekey Education Center is a busy place - providing a home for Kutztown's Elementary, Secondary and Special Education departments, Office of Clinical Experience and Outreach, and the Dean of the College of Education. Beekey receives its name from former Kutztown President Cyrus E. Most equipped with document cameras, white or black boards PC and MAC computers ROHRBACH LIBRARY – Library Science and all other programs The library is a modern, spacious facility with WiFi access areas throughout the building, more than 555,000 books and bound periodicals, 56,000 print and electronic periodical subscriptions; 100 databases providing access to hundreds of thousands of scholarly articles, e-books, documents, reports, and images; more than one million microforms; maps, videos and DVDs. The Library offers students broad access to technology through the Information Commons, five computer labs, and various computers, laptops, projectors, scanners, and smart boards around the building. In addition, students at KU are invited to check out cameras, audio recorders, and even Mac or PC laptop computers to supplement their learning experience. ROHRBACH LIBRARY – CURRICULUM MATERIALS CENTER Also housed in the Rohrbach Library is the Curriculum Materials Center. The Curriculum Materials Center (CMC) is located on the Ground Level of Rohrbach Library. This collection of approximately 16,000 items contains pre-K through grade 12 resources for pre-service and inservice teachers and supports Kutztown University’s College of Education curriculum. The main mission is to provide students and faculty in the College of Education with a representative collection of curriculum-related materials commonly used in U.S. public schools. In combining these materials with librarian instruction, we hope to ensure that students, faculty, staff, and local patrons are effective users of ideas and information. The jewel of Schaeffer Auditorium is the 800-seat theatre where musical, dance and theatrical performances regularly grace the stage. Kutztown University's Performing Artists Series brings world-renowned entertainers to our area. Classrooms introduce students to the wonder of music and a smaller secondary theatre provides a stage for entertainment groups. Students can even outfit themselves for performances in the costume shop. Schaeffer is named after president Nathan Schaeffer, who served the school from 1877-93. SHARADIN ART BUILDING - Art Education The Sharadin Art Building was expanded into a single, state-of-the-art facility in 2008. The College of Visual and Performing Arts, which includes the Art Education and Crafts, Communication Design and Fine Arts departments, is housed in this visually stunning facility. The Dean of the College is located here. The building includes spaces for art teaching labs and studios. A main attraction is the Sharadin Art Gallery, where professionally executed solo and group exhibitions of contemporary art in a variant of mediums is presented. An adjoining student gallery gives the opportunity to showcase work during students’ time at KU. 3 – Classrooms Art and Drawing Studios. All smart classrooms equipped with easels and/or drafting tables, sinks. 1 – Computer Lab 19 – Faculty Offices Smart classroom with MAC computers OLD MAIN – Counseling and Student Affairs Built in 1866, Old Main is the oldest and most historic building on campus. In our founding years at the close of the nineteenth century, Old Main was our sole building, providing classroom, administrative and living space. Today, Old Main is a modern and vibrant educational haven, housing the university's Computer Science, Criminal Justice, Counseling and Student Affairs, Music, Nursing, Philosophy, Political Science, Psychology, Social Work and Sport Management departments. You will also find the offices of Grants and Sponsored Projects; Housing, Dining and Residential Services; Public Safety; Social Equity; the Women’s Center; Writing Center; GLBTQ and the Student Support Services.
