COLLEGE OF BUSINESS • DEPARTMENT OF SPORT MANAGEMENT
VERSION NUMBER: 20123 FALL 2012
ELECTIVES IN L.S.S
The Number of Elective Credits taken in the L.S.S. major will vary depending
upon:
1. The number of LSS courses used to complete “free electives” under General
Education University Distribution and College Distribution categories, and,
2. The number of SPT 350 Internship in Sport Management credits taken.
Electives may be used in four different ways within the L.S.S. major:
1. To complete a Specialization in LSS (C/AA or HP/FA.): A Certificate will be
awarded to students who complete all courses within a Specialization. Students
can list this accomplishment on their resumes and include certificates in
materials they present to potential employers.
a. The Coaching/Athletic Administration Specialization is accredited by
N.C.A.C.E., a national accrediting body. A certificate will be awarded by
the Department stating this. In addition, two certificates can be earned in
SPT 222 from A.S.E.P., a national coaching program.
b. The Health Promotion/Fitness Administration Specialization is currently
not accredited. A certificate will be awarded by the Department.
2. To complete a minor from outside of the department.
3. To absorb “transfer” or “change of major” credits that don’t fit into the LSS
curriculum or general education categories.
4. To complete any course carrying university credit.
Choose from 1-4 above and record classes on your check sheet under the
Leisure & Sport Studies Program V. B. Elective Courses.
NOTE: Specialization courses and a blank grid for recording a minor are on the next
page.
