Press Release 03-20030603 June 3, 2003 Longbow arrival media advisory YONGSAN GARRISON, Republic of Korea – A squadron of Apache Longbow helicopters from the 6th Cavalry Brigade is returning to the Korean peninsula after completing a portion of the Army’s transformation and modernization program. This is part of the ongoing Army Aviation Transformation Plan. The upgraded Apache helicopters bring enhanced capabilities to the peninsula as well as contribute to the overall deterrence that U.S. Forces bring to the Alliance. The return of the unit further enhances the ROK-U.S. relationship and the Future of the Alliance. The modernization of the 6th Cavalry Brigade is part of the AH-64D, Apache Longbow Fielding Program. It incorporates modernization and aviation sustainment initiatives and improves the unit warfighting capabilities bringing them in line with the Army’s transformation initiatives. The arrival of the upgraded helicopters of the 3/6 Cavalry Squadron significantly enhances the three attack Aviation units stationed on the peninsula. Media availability will be announced once all aircraft have arrived at Camp Humphreys. Eighth Army PAO will publish an additional advisory to inform the media of the specific date and time.
