Meeting Minutes: April 19, 2011
Call to order
Petritsa Chatzitziva called to order the regular meeting of the 2010-11 Commission on the Status of
Minorities at 11:04 am on April 19, 2011 in the upstairs classroom of the Multicultural Center.
Attendance
The following persons were present:
Petritsa Chatzitziva – Division of Multicultural Services
James D. Jackson – Black Faculty Liaison Committee
R. Todd Rober – College of Visual and Performing Arts
Patricia Richter – Office of Social Equity
S. Pascale Dewey – College of Liberal Arts and Sciences
Veronica Lepore – Graduate Student Representative
Diane King – College of Education
The following persons were absent:
Thomas Robinson – Black Faculty Liaison Committee
Rajeev Kumar – College of Business
Christine Price – Student Services and Campus Life
Bobbie Berry – Black Faculty Liaison Committee
Louis Rodriquez – Latino Caucus
I. Approval of Minutes
There was not a quorum when the meeting was first called to order, so approval of the minutes from the
previous meeting of March 24, 2011 was passed.
III. Distinguished Service Award Nominations
A.Student
Cameo Pritchett was the only student nominated, but he was highly recommended by the
nomination form, and by several members of the Commission. D. King motions to select Cameo for the
student award, V. Lepore seconds, all present in favor. Motion passes.
B. Staff
Andrea L. Bono and Jerry Schearer were nominated. While both were helpful to students,
discussion centered on which of the two went beyond their assigned duties of their position. P.
Chatzitziva motions to select Jerry Schearer for Staff award, T. Rober seconds, all present in favor.
Motion passes.
C. Faculty
Mahfuzul Khondaker, Daniel Haxell, Amy S Trumbauer, and Carissa Pokorny-Golden were
nominated. P. Chatzitziva highly recommended Mahfuzul Khondaker for work with the International
mother language day and participation of the Muslim faith and culture conference. Amy Trumbauer was
also recommended for her mentoring program, taking students to New York for cultural awareness
activities, and work with the TRiO program. J. Jackson motions to select Mahfuzul Khondaker and Amy
Trumbauer for the two faculty awards, V. Lapore seconds. All present in favor. Motion passes.
III. Awards Reception
P. Chatzitziva has ordered very simple food for the reception in the Presidents’ room on April 26, 2011
at 11 am. This is the same day that several faculty will be going to Harrisburg for the NAACP rally to support
education funding.
IV. Elections
Rajeev Kumar will remain as webmaster.
D. King motions to elect James Jackson as the new Chair of the committee, P. Dewey seconds. All
present in favor. Motion passes.
P. Chatzitziva motions to re-elect Todd Rober as Secretary, D. King seconds. All present in favor.
Motion passes.
Adjournment
T. Rober motions, D. King seconds to adjourn meeting at 11:54 am.
