SendyourmanuscriptasaWorddocumenttoedu-irece@monash.eduand
ensureyouhavethefollowingwithyouremailsubmission:
1. Identifiedmanuscript,including:
a. yournameandacademicaffiliation,
b. anabstractof150-200words,
c. alistof6keywords,and
d. ashortbiographicalstatementforeachauthortoappearattheend
ofthemanuscript,includinganemailforcorrespondence.
2. De-identifiedmanuscriptforreview
a. Pleaseremoveallauthoridentificationfromthemanuscript
including:name,academicaffiliation,biographicalstatement,and
email.
b. Ifyouhavecitedyourpublications,substitutetheword‘author’for
yourdetailsandforthetitleoftheworkcited(incitationsand
referencelist).Removeanyotherreferencestopublicationsthat
couldpotentiallyidentifyauthorshiptoreviewers.
3. (Ifapplicable)Ethicsdeclaration
a. Ifyourpaperreportsonastudyinvolvinghumans,itneedstobe
accompaniedbyevidencethatitwasapprovedbyauniversity
ethicscommittee.Pleasealsoseerequirementsfordeclarationsof
fundingand/orconflictofinterestbelow.
4. Confirmationthatthemanuscripthasnotbeenpublishednor
submittedforpublicationelsewhere.
a. Pleaseprovidethisasamessageaccompanyingyouremail
submission
Manuscriptsshouldhavethemaintextsetto12ptTimes(orTimesNewRoman)
anddoublespace.
Manuscripttypes
Articlesmayvaryinlength,butshouldnotexceed8000words,inclusiveofnotes
andreferences.
Bookreviewsshouldnotexceed1000wordsandrequirekeywords,butnot
abstracts.
Ensuringablindpeerreview
Allarticlesarepeer-reviewed.Toensuretheintegrityofthisprocess,the
anonymityofauthorsandreviewersmustbepreserved.Inpreparingthedeidentifiedmanuscriptforsubmission,pleasetakethefollowingsteps:
1. Removeyournamefromthetext,substituting‘author’ifandwhereyou
havecitedyourownwork
2. AlsoremoveyourdetailsfromthepropertiesoftheWorddocumentfile.

Copyrightlicence
Itisaconditionofpublicationthatauthorsassigncopyrightorlicenseto
publicationrightsintheirarticles,includingabstracts,toMonashUniversity(as
copyrightownerofIRECEjournal).Therefore,ifyourpaperisacceptedfor
publication,wewillrequireacompletedcopyrightlicenceformafterthereview
processiscomplete.However,youmaywishtoreviewthisformbefore
submittingyourmanuscripttounderstandwhatisentailed.
Researchersshouldproduceastatementdeclaringanyinterestorpayment
obtainedinthecommissioningoftheresearch;whethertheresearchwasfunded

Thelanguageofsubmissionisnormally,butnotnecessarily,English.Please
writetothejournal(edu-irece@monash.edu)beforesubmittingyourmanuscript
witha300-wordabstractinEnglish,andadviseonthefollowing:
• youracademicaffiliation(ifapplicable)
• thelanguageinwhichyouseektopublish
• whetherthisisthefirsttimeyouhavesubmittedtoanEnglishlanguage
publication.

Spelling:Ourdefaultstyleuses____spellingsandpunctuationconventions.
Avoidhyphens(e.g.,‘sociocultural’,‘multicultural’)exceptwhereisaccepted
practiceinthefield(e.g.,‘cultural-historical’).
en/emdashes:Useemdashes—typedastwohyphenswithnospacebeforeor
afterthedash—ratherthanendashesthesetoffanelementordigressfromthe
mainclause.
Footnotes/Endnotes:pleaseconvertallfootnotestoendnotesnumbered
consecutivelystartingwith1.Donotuseendnotesasamethodofcitation,but
onlytoprovideessentialsupplementaryinformationtothetext.
Latinabbreviations:generally,onlythefollowingabbreviationsareused,and
onlywithinparenthesiswiththeaccompanyingpunctuation:‘cf.’(compare),‘i.e.,’
(thatis,),‘e.g.,’(forexample,),‘,etc.’(,andsoon/forth).UsetheEnglish
translationoutsideofparenthesis(exceptfor‘etal.’,whichiswrittenassuchin
allcases).
Lists:UseArabicnumberingforlists,romannumbersforsub-lists,andlowercaselettersforthird-levellists.Useclosingparenthesesafterthenumbers.For

probabilitynotes).Alsoavoidverticalrulesandapplyminimalhorizontalrules.
Figureshavetheirnumberdesignationandcaptionunderneaththefigureitself.
Titlesofworksintext
Useitalicsforlongerworks(e.g.,books,editedcollections),andquotationsfor
shorterworks(e.g.,journalarticles,bookchapters):

Transcriptsandtranscriptquotations
TranscriptdatashouldbesetinaCouriertypeface,usingmultiplespacestoalign
linesoftext(e.g.,forindicatingoverlappingspeech).Transcriptdatashouldalso
benumberedbyturnsratherthanlines.
In-textcitations
Inreferringtoanideafromanotherwork,theauthorandyearofpublication
mustbecited.Onlywhereyouhavedirectlyquotedmaterialisthepagenumber
alsorequired.Whereadirectquotationcomesfromanelectronicsource(e.g.,
webpage)withoutpagenumbers,useparagraphnumbersifparagraphsare
numbered,usingtheabbreviation“para.”
Formultipleauthors,onlyuseanampersand(&)whenthecitationis
parenthetical.Otherwise,use‘and’in-text.Whereaworkhasthreetofive
authors,listallnamesonthefirstcitation,thenonlythefirstauthorand“etal.”
forsubsequentcitations.
