Toolbars and Tabs SMART Board Quick Reference Card Staff Development Toolbars and Tabs in SMART Notebook™ Software 1. Menu Toolbar 2. Adaptive Toolbar 3. Actions Panel 4. Full Screen Toolbar 5. Properties Panel 6. Tools Panel 7. Side Panel – Tabs 8. Floating Tools Toolbar Menu Toolbar Contains all the commands that can be used to manage files and objects in SMART Notebook file. 1. Select the menu option 2. Choose desired action Adaptive Toolbar This toolbar can be moved to the bottom of the page by clicking on the double-ended arrow which is located on the far right of the toolbar. Actions Panel Browse, create and edit a .notebook file Actions with an arrow Full Screen Toolbar in the bottom right corner contain additional actions or options 1. Select View Screens Full Screen Toolbar – will open when the Full Screen option has been selected through the View Screens button. All open windows are hidden and the current window will expand to fill the screen 2. Choose Full Screen 3. To Exit Full Screen, click on the Full Screen Additional Options in Full Screen View 1. Move forward and back between pages icon 2. More Options menu 3. Choose between Page Width or Entire Page 4. Toolbar options a. Press on the Toolbar options button b. Choose an option Reference: Refer to the Quick Reference Card Essentials Buttons Properties Toolbar When buttons from the Tools panel is selected additional buttons appear through Properties Toolbar, providing creative options and other properties for the selected tool. Note: If select is not chosen, the SMART Board and SMART Notebook software continue to interact and interpret touches based on last action/function 2. Create Shapes 1. Press on the Shapes icon 2. Choose a shape or object from the Properties panel 3. Choose a line and fill colour for the shape, object or line 4. Choose a line style and thickness for the line 5. Select the transparency for the object 3. Create Regular Polygons 1. Press on the Regular Polygon icon 2. Choose a polygon from the Properties panel 3. Choose a line and fill colour for the shape, object or line 4. Choose a line style and thickness for the line 5. Select the transparency for the object 4. Fill 1. Select an object or area to be filled 2. Select the fill icon 3. Choose a colour 4. Press the object – it is now filled. 5. Pens 1. Launch the Pens Toolbar 2. Choose from the different pen options available Pen Options Standard – write or draw digital ink in a variety of colours and line styles Calligraphic – write or draw digital ink, like you do with the Standard pen type, but with lines of varying thickness. Choose a font colour 5. Select the transparency for the text 7. Create Lines and Arcs 1. Press on the Lines icon 2. Choose the type of line or arc required 3. Select a colour for the line or arc 4. Choose from the following line styles: Thickness Line style Line start option Line end option 5. Select the transparency for the line or arc 8. Eraser 1. Press the eraser icon 2. Choose from the three eraser sizes to clear the area Note: The middle size will be the default when the eraser function is selected 3. Wipe the area clear Tip: When you want to clear a larger section of the page area, draw a circle around the area with the eraser, then tap once with the eraser inside the circle. All the digital ink inside the circle will disappear. Properties Tab The Properties function works in the same principle as Microsoft Word. To use the Properties tab: Press the Properties tab icon Create desired changes to objects, text, font etc Depending on the object selected, the following can be changed: Colour, thickness and type of line to use The transparency of the filled area of objects Font size and type Object animation 5. Add-ons Tab 1. Press the Add-on Tab icon 2. Select an object to be the activity object 3. Press Edit 4. From the Objects tab drag the objects to the appropriate areas to accept or reject them for the activity 5. From the Settings tab, choose the behaviour of the objects when accepted or rejected 6. Press Done Changing the Background of the Page Area 1. Right –click on the page background 2. Press “Set Background” 3.
