AUXILIARY STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES OF THE UNIVERSITY
Academic Advisement — Every graduate student granted regular or conditional admission
is assigned an academic advisor in his or her department.
It is the responsibility of the student to seek regular and timely meetings with the academic
advisor, the need for such meetings varying according to the individual student and the academic
program. The advisor will assist the student in determining goals and objectives and in pursuing an
organized plan of study as prescribed for that degree program. Additionally, the advisor provides
help in planning for a comprehensive examination or in developing a thesis topic, if appropriate.
Some graduate degree programs may require the assistance of an advisor in the College of
Education to aid the student in obtaining or extending teaching certification. In every case, the
academic advisor should be the primary source of information and guidance.
A graduate student may call upon the department chairperson for information in matters
relating to curriculum changes, future schedules of course offerings, department regulations,
sabbatical leave by faculty, etc. The Dean of Graduate Studies is available to all graduate students
for consultation in matters of graduate regulations, time limitations, extreme cases of personal
difficulty or hardship, and other issues.
Counseling Services — The Department of Counseling and Psychological Services offers a
limited range of services to graduate students, including consultations, referrals, outreach programs,
and crisis intervention. Services are provided during the traditional Fall and Spring semesters
during regular business hours. For further information, contact the Office of Counseling and
Psychological Services, 127 Beck Hall, 610-683-4027.
Health and Wellness Services — Enrolled students who submit the required history
information and pay the semester health center fee may utilize the University’s healthcare services.
For more information about the hours of operation and available services, select the Clinical
Services link on the Health and Wellness Center’s website. Graduate students who do not wish to
use campus healthcare services may waive the paperwork requirement through an alternate
document. The semester health center fee is not assessed unless requested. A notice is sent to all
graduate students during their first semester of attendance advising them to select one of the two
options, as outlined above. All forms are located on the Health and Wellness Center’s website.
Questions about required medical forms should be directed to Health Administrative Services at
610-683-4082, Option 2. Questions about healthcare services should be directed to Clinical
Services at 610-683-4082, Option 1.

educational opportunity and participation for persons with disabilities. It is University policy to
adhere to Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act of
1990 and its amendments. The University will make its programs, activities, and services accessible
to students with disabilities. It is the student’s responsibility to self-disclose a disability to the
Disability Services Office and provide updated documentation of a disability in order to receive
reasonable accommodations. All records are confidential. Accommodations may include, but not be
limited to, extra test time, distraction reduced testing environment, classroom note taker, alternate
text format, use of a recorder in the classroom, alternate test format, other auxiliary aids and
services. For students with disabilities and their helpers, please note the “Guidelines for Emergency

Prior to application, students with disabilities are advised to explore both the University’s ability to
provide reasonable accommodations for their program of study and their own ability to undertake
such studies. Disability Services seeks to provide an atmosphere of support and affirmation for
students with disabilities. Students with concerns regarding compliance may register their concerns
with the Director of Social Equity after first discussing them with the Director of Disability
Services. The Disability Services Office is located at 215 Stratton Administration Building. Call
the Office at 610-683-4108 for more information. TDD number: 610-683-4499, Fax: 610-683-1520.

law enforcement to ensure that the campus is as safe as possible. The department employs fully
