UNIVERSITY OF ALASKA FAIRBANKS Student Learning Outcomes Assessment BA in Theatre Revised: February 2009 Intended Objectives/Outcomes Assessment Criteria and Procedures Expanded Statement of Institutional Purpose MISSION STATEMENT: To provide a quality, undergraduate, theatre arts education. Direct Assessment Tools: 1) Audition / Portfolio Review: Theatre majors and minors will be evaluated at semester auditions with written comments by directors/faculty. Portfolios of Theatre majors and minors will be evaluated with comments by faculty. All evaluations will be included in students’ files in department office and available for students to review. GOAL STATEMENT: To assure that our graduates are adequately prepared to succeed in the job market in their chosen area of expertise. Students will develop their oral and written communication skills. Students will develop their conceptual and artistic abilities. Students will develop practical skills in their area of concentration: performance, film, directing, design & technical theatre. Students will develop their collaborative skills and leadership abilities. 2) Final Creative Presentations: Evaluations will be based upon written comments made by professor during final class presentations at the end of each semester. 3) Faculty Advisor Evaluation: Advisor Evaluations will be based upon written comments made by faculty advisor during student’s final semester. This evaluation should encompass the student’s entire time at Theatre UAF, addressing student’s strengths and areas that need further development. Form to be filled out by acting, directing, and design faculty members. Student workers enter data into spreadsheet tracking scores. Evaluation form kept in student file in department office. Indirect Assessment Tools: 1) Alumni Survey: Alumni will be surveyed about their involvement and employment in the professional world, their reflections on Theatre UAF’s preparation of them for that field, and their opinion of their educational experience at Theatre UAF. 2) Production Survey: Each Main-stage production (Theatre UAF), Winter Shorts production (Student Drama Association), Famous for Fifteen production (SDA), or other show produced by Theatre UAF will have a post-show production survey to be filled out by all cast and crew involved in the production. 3) Class Questionnaires: Incoming Class Assessment forms evaluate students’ knowledge prior to introductory level classes in each emphasis (Fundamentals of Acting, Basic Stagecraft, Directing, Let’s Make a Movie) at the beginning of each semester. Outgoing Class Assessment Forms evaluate students’ knowledge at the end of course. Indirect Assessment Tools: 1) Alumni Survey: Alumni surveys will be conducted every year in the fall administered by department coordinator. Email lists will be stored in Alumni database kept by department coordinator. Student workers enter data into spreadsheet tracking responses. Faculty conduct an annual spring meeting addressing data collected and implementing any curricular changes deemed necessary. 2) Production Survey: Production surveys will be administered by department coordinator at each production’s Post Mortem Town Meeting after the show closes. Student workers enter data into spreadsheet tracking responses. Faculty conduct an annual spring meeting addressing data collected and implementing any curricular changes deemed necessary. 3) Class Questionnaires: Form for each class kept on department coordinator’s computer and distributed to faculty boxes at beginning and end of each semester.
