 Communities in School of the Lehigh Valley
Communities in School of the Lehigh Valley connect elementary, middle, and high school students to
local college students for academic support, personal growth, social skill development, and career
exploration. They work with 4 middle schools and 2 high schools in the Allentown School District, and
one elementary school in the Bethlehem Area School District. They currently have openings in two
middle schools and one high school: Thursdays 2:30-4:30, Thursdays 3:00-5:00, or Tuesdays 2:30-4:30.

 Saturday Morning Cartoons, Conversation, and Culture
This program will take place at the one-room schoolhouse at the PA German Cultural Heritage Center on
ten Saturday mornings each semester during the 2012- 2013 school year. The program will meet from
10:00-11:00 am on selected Saturday mornings. 10 Freshman, Sophomores, or Juniors are needed.

 Northeast Middle School: Reading School District-Tutoring Opportunities
Every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday students are needed to help tutor middle school students from
4:15-5:15 at Northeast Middle School in Reading. Contact Dr. Stahler (stahler@kutztown.edu) for more
information.
 America Reads
America Reads is a tutoring program where students go into the schools in the local community and
tutor students who are struggling in various subjects. Every student has the same schedule each week
based around your class schedule. Monthly meetings and journaling is also required. Applications are
available in the Community Outreach Center, MSU 281 or by e-mailing Joe Hohman at
americareads@kutztown.edu.
Education Exploration Service Opportunities for Secondary Education Students
 Olivet Boys and Girls Club of Reading
The volunteers at the Boys and Girls Club in Reading work with children at their after school homework
help program. They also get to play games and serve as positive role models for the children. Additional
requirements include criminal background check and child abuse clearance. Groups go Monday through
Thursday leaving campus at 3:00 and returning at 7:30. Contact Tiana at troge314@live.kutztown.edu

 Kids Café
The volunteers at Kids Café in Reading provide support to the Salvation Army’s after school program.
Each day the kids receive dinner and our students provide homework help and act as a positive role
model for the children. Groups go Monday through Thursday leaving campus at 2:15 and returning at

 Science Olympiad
Students are needed for general volunteering from 8-5 on Wednesday, March 20th, 2013 to help with
this program at Kutztown University. Contact Lisa Cronk at lcron686@live.kutztown.edu for more

 Fleetwood Elementary School- Science Wizardry
Instructor will lead students in hands on experiments, and teach students about outer space, chemical
reactions, biology and more. We provide curriculum and supplies. Compensation is $35 per class. (1
hour) and meet on Tuesdays 3:35-4:50 (8 week program). If you are interested respond with your
resume and answers to the following questions:
1. Are you available on Tuesdays from 3:35-4:50pm?
2. Can you pass a background check, or do you currently have clearances?
3. Do you have reliable transportation? And how close to the Fleetwood area do you live?

 National Junior Tennis & Learning of Trenton
Schools are mandated to prepare children for specific state assessments; whereas an out-of-school
program provides the chance to talk about learning --- the importance of thinking, discussing math
concepts, writing clearly, and speaking well. The activities contained in ACE provide a platform from
which this goal can be reached.
