Scholars (S3)
scholarships were
instituted to assist
academically
deserving students
with financial
needs who want
to earn a degree
in one of the
disciplines in
STEM (Science,
Technology,
Engineering and
Mathematics) at
St. Louis Community College.
Sponsored by St. Louis Community College and
the National Science Foundation, the scholarship
provides up to $6,026 for qualified students.
Scholarship Requirements
Applicants must be citizens or nationals of the
United States and must meet the following criteria:
• Enrolled full-time (at least 12 credit hours per
semester) in a STEM degree program:
Biotechnology
Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM)
Computer Science
Engineering Science
Engineering Technology
• Demonstrate academic potential or ability as
determined by the selection committee using
application materials.
• Demonstrate financial need as determined by
the S3 Academy Scholarship Student Selection
committee based on requested documentation
(FAFSA) and documentation of other financial aid
already received.
• Have achieved the status of graduating high
school senior, GED graduate or current college
credit student at STLCC.
• Have completed three years of high school
mathematics (Algebra I or higher) or college
mathematics (Intermediate Algebra or higher)
with a grade of “B” or better.
• Hold a minimum grade point average (GPA) of
2.5 in high school mathematics and science,
or a 2.5 cumulative college GPA, or minimum
ACT mathematics and science scores of 20 (or
a comparable STLCC Accuplacer score). Current
college credit students must be on track to
graduate in the same timeline as students already
in the S3 Academy Scholarship program.
Two letters of recommendation, one from a
mathematics or science teacher and one from
another teacher or counselor, are required.
A typed 2-page essay must accompany the
application. Scholarship finalists will be interviewed
by members of the S3 Academy Scholarship
Selection committee to aid in selection of
scholarship winners.

• Can I use this scholarship to help pay
for child-care and living expenses?
Yes, scholarships are to be used for
expenses normally incurred by all
full-time students in the indicated
STEM programs.
• What if I have other scholarship/
grant money?
Other sources of financial aid do not
necessarily limit this scholarship.
• What are the requirements for award
renewal?
Students must be active in S3 Academy
activities and must reapply in the spring
semester to be considered for the
following academic year.
• What is the deadline for scholarship
application?
Applications are accepted year-round.
