His talk “Civilians in Wartime: The Saratoga Campaign: ‘It was an Awful Time’,”

Washington County residents during his lecture. He became the most recent

History Club Travels to Philadelphia
On November 11, 2012, twenty-eight students and their advisor, Dr. Saidi traveled to
Philadelphia to visit the Constitution Center,
Independence Hall, and the Liberty Bell,
among other locations in the city. Students
visited the Reading Terminal Market for
lunch. Many students enjoyed the exhibit at
the Constitution Center called American Spirits: The Rise and Fall of Prohibition. The trip
was part of an ongoing series of events sponsored by the KU History Club.
On October 29th, a local community audience
viewed The Return of Martin Guerre. The 1982 film
starring Gerard Depardieu was based upon the real
sixteenth-century court case in France that involved
a man’s stolen identity. According to New York
Times reviewer Vincent Canby, the film “leaves room
in which to speculate on the nature of life in the
16th-century [village of] Artigat, on its
institutions—especially the church—on family ties,
on the sanctity of marriage, property, and money.”
