For more than 25 years, my husband,
Dr. Tony Aboudib, and I have worked side
by side to improve the health of our patients
at our chiropractic clinic. When he told me
that during his Neurology Diplomate classes
he learned about neurofeedback and how
it could be used to help our patients, I was
initially skeptical. But after attending a seminar last fall I was so impressed I wanted to
try it myself.
ADHD and autism were both of particular interest to us because we know
families, including our own, who are dealing with each of these. I wasn’t diagnosed
with ADHD until I was over 40 years old
but I knew growing up that I had trouble
with focus and attention issues.
You don’t outgrow ADHD just as you
don’t outgrow autism. Many people think
of these as childhood diseases but not all of
our patients are young. Many patients we
see are older and most have struggled much
of their lives with these disorders.
Ailments such as ADHD and autism
are caused by brainwave dysregulation, a
condition that results after any long-term
stress response to the body causing the
brainwaves to vary from what a normal
pattern would look like.
Causes may include any perceived
threat, drugs, toxins, vaccines, poor nutrition, lack of sunlight/vitamin D deficiency,
emotional or physical trauma or stress,
lack of exercise or spinal subluxation.
Braincore Neurofeedback Therapy
BrainCore Neurofeedback Therapy is a
revolutionary treatment that works to
retrain dysregulated brainwaves. It is painless, drugless and non-invasive. It has no
side effects and the treatment is permanent.
It begins with a QEEG (map of the
brain) which gives a printed readout of the
brainwaves that are weakest and need the
most training. Another QEEG is done after
every 10 sessions and the tests are compared for signs of improvement.
During the therapy the client can watch
a DVD of his or her choosing, play a simulated game, do puzzles or listen to music.
Sensors detect the brainwave activity and
allow the movie or audio to continue if
the brain is following a normal brainwave
pattern. The brain figures out that the
video or audio will continue when the
brainwaves have aligned properly. With
continued use, those brainwave patterns
are reinforced.
The developer of the program used
the “horse and carrot” analogy. The brain
wants to see the program continue so it
goes through a process until it finds the
brainwaves that will allow that to happen
and is rewarded through the playback of
the video or audio. Sometimes for this
to take place the brain has to create new
brainwaves as in the person with traumatic
brain injury or stroke. Over the course of

the treatments these brainwaves become
stronger and the brain will use them
more frequently, thereby strengthening
them even more.
We have clients currently being treated for ADD/ADHD, migraine headaches,
anxiety, depression, autism and other
ailments and are all seeing improvements of varying degrees. We have seen
a range of 17-39 percent improvement
in brainwave normalization after the first
10 sessions.
Neurofeedback has also been scientifically proven to help those suffering with
learning disorders, insomnia, memory
loss, OCD, traumatic brain injury, poststroke, chronic pain, fibromyalgia and
panic attacks.
Although neurofeedback has been
around for over 40 years, it is within
the last 10 years that a program like
BrainCore Therapy has been able to bring
this simple treatment to the clinical setting. The Veterans Administration recently
began using neurofeedback for their
patients suffering with Post Traumatic
Stress Disorder.
Research into Autism Spectrum
Disorder has shown incredible improvements following neurofeedback treatments. Parents have reported improvements in various symptoms of autism
including increased sustained attention,
decreased autistic behaviors (such as
inappropriate giggling) and improved
socialization including involvement in
team sports. There was also improvement in vocalization, schoolwork and
sleep while reducing symptoms of anxiety, uncontrolled crying and tantrums.
What are we hearing from our clients?
One is finally starting to socialize and
participate in class. Another adult is
requesting reduction in her anti-depressants due to the success of her treatments. The mother of one of our ADHD
clients was told by her son’s teacher
that he isn’t as disruptive in class and is
able to concentrate for longer periods.
The teacher encouraged her to continue
whatever they are doing. We hear comments like this every day and appreciate
knowing we are changing lives.
