Advice for the exam
Make sure that you answer the problems that you are able to answer before getting bugged down
in the more difficult ones. You may find some of the problems harder to solve than other. Do not
spend a lot of time on a hard sub problem in Problem 1d without getting anywhere only to find that
there is no time left for Problem 5 which you could easily have solved. You can get a good grade even
if you do not answer all problems.
Make sure to answer the question stated in the problem. An exam is a stressful situation, and under
stress there is a danger that you may rush too quickly with the result that you actually wastes time.
In one exam we asked for an intuitive explanation of part of the second term of the Slutsky equation.
When grading the exam it seemed like a lot of students only responded to the key-word “Slutsky”
and started to write extensively about the Slutsky equation. Some students wasted a lot of time
writing several pages about the Slutsky-equation without answering the question. Take your time to
read carefully through the question and make sure to respond to what we ask for.
