Registration (8:00-12:30)
8:30 - 12:30 A debate: Recognition of signals or signaling recognition?
Antonio Coutinho , University of
Lisbon
Irun Cohen , Weizman University
Meeting Summary
The conference will examine several important issues related to signaling networks inside immune cells as well as between cells of the innate and adaptive immune systems. Intracellularly, we will probably have to wait for some time until all signaling events will be known. As research on cellular signaling has progressed immensely in the recent past, we can already now start deciphering the pathways that underlie main cellular phenomena like cytokine/chemokine and antibody
Melvin Cohn , The Salk Institute
Hans Hengartner, University of
Zurich
12:30 - 13:30 - Lunch
13:30 - 15:30 Continuation: Is there theoretical room for regulation of immunity?
Carsten B. Schmidt-Weber , SIAF,
Davos
Zlatko Dembic , University of Oslo
Colin Anderson , University of
Manitoba production, migration, differentiation, activation, cytotoxicity, apoptosis and regulation of the immune response. How does this knowledge fit with theories about the function of the immune system? The goal is to at least start answering this question by presenting various concepts of immunity from self-nonself discrimination to detection of pathogenicity, danger, integrity or friendly signals from the microenvironment. The stage is set for an open discussion. We have to find a unifying theory about the workings of the immune system that can explain available data and aim to satisfy most if not all scientists, clinicians and the public.
Dubrovnik - the Mediterranean as it once was! It's innate beauty remains despite the adaptive changes brought about by human nature!
