In it the students are given three ways to submit their Placement Information Forms; online, fax, and USPS. When communicating with a student prior to SOAR, please stress the importance of completing this form. Jean Bird, the chair of the Student Evaluation subcommittee, reported that a draft copy of the SOAR student evaluation will be sent soon to advisors for their input. The Provost has approved the academic portion of SOAR, Draft 7. We expect to hear if Dr. Biller has approved the student services’ portion of the schedule soon. ENG 100 Sections with Required Laptops Michelle Yager is meeting with the English Department and Sarah Lawson to determine the best procedure to use when helping students register for these ENG sections. UPDATE: III COAA Vice-Chair and CAGAS vote IV Students will NOT need special permission to register for a laptop required section of ENG 100. There are currently 38 sections of ENG 100. The sections numbered 001-030 do not require a laptop. Sections 090-097 DO require a laptop. Sarah Lawson will add a footnote in the description announcing the laptop requirement. In addition, Magdelyn Helwig will notify, via email, every student that registers for sections 090-097 to ensure they are aware of the laptop requirement. At the May 2nd COAA meeting we will vote for next year’s COAA Vice-Chair and CAGAS representative. The voting will be done by paper ballot. Vice-Chair Nominee: Caryn Morgan CAGAS Nominees: Lisa Melz and Bryan Barker Standing Committee Reports: Professional Development and Networking o NACADA Webinar & Panel Disc: “Advising Strategies for Students Who Are On Academic Probation, Facing Dismissal, or Seeking Reinstatement”, April 24th from 1:00-3:00 in Stipes 121 (PAA points are only awarded if coming to live viewing with panel disc. Watching the rebroadcast of the webinar in your office will not quality for PAA points) o 2nd Annual Advisor Retreat: Swinging Into SOAR, Advisors, GA’s, and support staff are invited! Monday, May 13th from 11:00-4:30, held at the Harry Mussatto Golf Course. GOLF SKILLS NOT REQUIRED!! V Campus Affairs and Public Relations o Posters, table tents, and electronic bulletin boards were used to send students the message to meet with their advisor early to ensure they can register for FALL 2013 classes on time. Assessment o The revised Student Survey will be sent to all undergraduate students next week. Please encourage your students to complete the survey! o The Advisor Survey will be revised and sent out this summer. Awards and Recognition o No report CAGAS Report – Jean Bird At the last CAGAS meeting there were applications for two exceptions to the Final Exam Policy (to hold events for students); 3 overload requests with 2 approved; one late withdrawal from Fall 2012 which was denied, and 8 academic integrity incidents. CAGAS meets the afternoon of May 2 and will have a report at the May 13 COAA meeting. VI News from the Registrar’s Office – Sue Dagit VII College/Area News – Council Members VIII The Centennial Honor Reception will be held on Saturday, May 4th. Advisors are being asked to work with their incoming Centennial Honor students and register them for Fall 2013 courses. Please make sure these students know they are still required to attend SOAR. Molly Homer will send out student names to the appropriate advisors. She will also send our instructions for getting hold and placements in place prior to registration. New Business The Mobile Tutoring App has been approved. CAIT hopes to have it ready by the fall semester.
