This Executive Summit will bring law enforcement executives together to examine critical issues in the use of force. Through detailed analysis of the varying issues surrounding use of force and networking, participants will able to return to their agency and begin to implement crucial components regarding the use of force. March 16, 2010—General Session (9:00 a.m.—Noon) Critical Legal Issues of Use of Force by Law Enforcement Use of force is one of the most critical issues for all law enforcement agencies. Participants will gain knowledge and an understanding of applying the constitutional legal standards in use of force policy; trends in litigation; balancing the circumstances of an officers’ use of force on patrol; and ways to improve the policy and protocols of the agency. Myths and Reality: New Findings in the Use of Force Research This eye-opening presentation is designed to clearly present, in a practical and understandable fashion, the results of the most cutting edge research into the dynamics of human behavior during life-threatening encounters. Breakout Sessions (1:15 p.m.—4:30 p.m.) Participants will break into self-selected groups to discuss specific topics related to use of force (see registration form for topics). This format provides an opportunity for a group to hear several people knowledgeable about a specific issue present information and discuss personal views.
