General Guidelines for the Seminars- aligned with the Seminar Syllabus guidelines developed through the Field Placement Office .

Overall Goals: Students will demonstrate the ability to design, implement and evaluate their instructional experiences.

Students will demonstrate the ability to integrate and assess relevant learning activities, which motivate and instruct.

Students will demonstrate the ability to implement effective behavior management skills for diverse classrooms.

ƒ There are 6 required seminars today and five during the semester,

If needed we may meet individually or as a group at another time.

Seminar Dates: Tues. 1/8, 1/29, 2/26, 3/11, 4/15, 4/29.

ƒ The Seminars will take place in the Art Bldg. Art Ed. Room, you will be released from school early to arrive on campus for 2:00 start time, we will meet until 3:30.You are expected to arrive on time and stay for the full

Seminar. A different topic will be highlighted each day.

It is your responsibility to give your Mentor advanced notice of Seminar

Dates and times, and leave any preparation for them in your absence.

ƒ During the Seminars we have a general curriculum to follow that will enhance your classroom experience and help prepare you for employment through the completion of the Professional Portfolio.

ƒ The Seminar is a place to share ideas and experiences, as they are fresh in your mind, and to reinforce learning on pertinent areas of Professional development.

There are specific assignments due at each seminar and their completion will directly affect your recommendations, as they are indicators of professional development .

Check your emails daily for updates/ information, when you receive an email please reply with RECEIVED or some response so we know you received it. We will do the same. If you do not get a response within 48 hrs assume we did not receive it.

The following schedule includes dates and general topic areas, based on the guidelines already established for the Education Dept. which we will review at the our first session. All assignments are due at the start of class .

Tues 1/08 ,2008, 10:00-12:00 Student Teacher initial Meeting

-Review guidelines for Student teaching, including handout on our role as supervisors, and communication materials to be filled out and returned.

-Placement issues and questions.

-Requirements of the University in regards to: preparation, attendance, professionalism, contact information -the school the teacher and the Principal.

-Portfolio preparation work sample, recommendations.

initial visit between Jan. 14-18. 29 to meet briefly with your Mentor to

answer questions and introduce “ Work Sample”. Not an observation.

SEMINAR DATES AND TOPICS - 30 Minutes each class will be devoted to sharing feedback on issues related to your experiences in your school settings, assignments due at start of class they will be part of seminar.You will not begiven time during seminar to complete work.

Classroom management, Discipline -conflict management, working with your

Mentor on management skills specific to the art room. first 1 portfolio entry due .

Portfolio: Your work sample Goals and Objectives ready to be reviewed in class.

(we wilol collect them to review) Discussion of assessment section of sample.

Tues. Feb. 26

2 Portfolio entries due, Work sample all signatures complete , assessment complete. (4 th

entry) (all that should remain on the work sample is reflection and final organization, photos.) communications and professional interaction with

Mentor and School. Working across the curriculum review of assessment styles and purpose. (remember you will need to have all work sample on site done before leaving this site)

- Collection of Recommendations and final evaluations from Mentor at your first placement

Initial visit to second site (not evaluation) first week of March

Portfolio entries, review of professional portfolio criteria and connections to educational portfolios, and sharing successful artifacts.

-Pacing Lessons and discussion of motivational techniques in culturally diverse classrooms.

Continuation of Management techniques at different age levels.

Discuss Entries for portfolio -should include photo documentation and professional development.

Week of April 15 th

all work samples must be completed and signed.

Tues. April 15th

- Collection of Work Sample completed with Mentor signatures and rubric for grading

Discussion topics during interviews for teaching, practicing oral responses.

Submit -Self assessed portfolio sheet for Final Portfolio submitted for

Checkpoint 4 with at least 6 additional entries (completed during Student

Teaching), they should be in a variety of areas and may replace a less proficient earlier artifact. We will be returning your Work Sample, either accepted as is or how it needs to be corrected to reach proficiency. (Requires an individual meeting with your supervisor).

TUESDAY April 29, 2008

A final Seminar to collect final evaluations recommendations, and review professional portfolio adjustments, your recommendations and evaluations must be in by April 29th, to be processed for graduation.

*Final on Site Evaluations will be between April 21-25 .

Remember it is your responsibility to have lesson plans and other materials in on time. You may not teach a class unless you have given your Mentor a copy of your lesson plan at least a full day before the class. We will also expect to receive a copy of your plan 24hrs before an observation. (not 11 pm the nite before)

This is your opportunity to learn from each other and develop professional skills, please feel free to contact us anytime with your concerns; we need to work as a team to succeed.

If you have not joined NAEA and OAEA you should do it now, it is an important part of Professionalism. Student teaching is your primary job this term.

If you have specific learning needs please meet with your supervisor the first week.
