Textbook
Production and Operations Analysis by Steve Nahmias, 6th Edition
Course description
Principles, models and techniques for planning, analysis and design of integrated production systems;
optimization principles applied to production planning; topics to include capacity expansion models,
learning curves, aggregate planning models, deterministic and stochastic inventory, MRP and supply
chain management.
Prerequisites
ISEN 220, STAT 211, and MATH 304
Co-requisites
ISEN 420
Course objectives
 Learn formulations, models, and analytical procedures for the study of production planning and
operations management problems.
 Learn fundamental principles of inventory control.
 Be able to develop optimization models for capacity, production, and inventory decisions.
 Improve systems thinking and modeling skills.

Due-dates
Homework assignments must be handed in at the start of class on the day they are due. Late assignments
will not be accepted. If a test is missed, you must have a written authorized excuse.
Grading
 Exam 1 (25%), Exam 2 (25%), Exam 3 (25%), Homework (15%), Class participation (10%).
 Class participation is not the same as attendance!
 If a test is missed you must have a written authorized excuse.
 Exam 1: Feb 24 (Thursday), Exam 2: Mar 31 (Thursday), Exam 3: Apr 28.
 A for 100—90%, B for 89.9—80%, C for 79.9—70%, D for 69.9—60%, and F for less than
60%.
