SAP APPEAL PRIORITY DATES: (Fall August 1) (Spring January 5) (Summer May 15)
Appeals not submitted by the deadline will not be reviewed by the fee payment deadline. Students are
encouraged to set up a payment plan to secure classes.

ATTENTION STUDENTS: Submitting this form does not guarantee reinstatement of financial aid or academic standing. The
student is responsible for any charges incurred during periods of ineligibility even if the appeal is not approved. You will be
notified via email and in LoLA, the outcome of your appeal within 10-15 business days after the receipt and review of the appeal.
INSTRUCTIONS: Complete steps 1-4 below, and submit this completed form with all supporting documentation to the Office of
Enrollment Services. Appeals should be delivered to the Office of Enrollment Services located in the Bienvenue Student Center or
emailed to appeals@mybrcc.edu. Submission of incomplete appeals or appeals without documentation will be DENIED.
STEP 1: Please Indicate Type of Appeal: (select all that apply)
Financial Aid- Must maintain a 2.00 GPA and complete at least 67 percent of the classes attempted

Grade Point Average (GPA) or Pace of Progression (Completion Rate)
Students must maintain a 2.0 cumulative GPA. Students must also complete at least 67 percent of the hours in which they enroll each
academic year. All coursework, including transfer hours will be evaluated when determining SAP.

Maximum Time Frame
Students receiving financial aid funds will be expected to complete their BRCC educational program or course of study within a
reasonable time frame. A change of major form must be on file in the Office of Enrollment Services for the new major. The maximum
time frame is 150 percent (ex. 90 hours to complete 60 hour degree) of the published length of the academic program or certificate to
include all transfer and developmental credit hours. You must provide a degree audit (obtainable from department of study),
signed by an academic advisor.
Students may request to have their maximum timeframe extended under the following circumstances:

STEP 2: APPEAL STATEMENT: Attach a typed statement describing the circumstance that kept you from meeting the established
academic standards during your most recent semester. Also explain how that situation has changed so that you can now meet the
standards. You will need to document this situation.

STEP 3: Each appeal reason can only be approved once. Attach a typed statement describing how you plan to keep this situation
from affecting your academic progress in future semesters.

EXTENUATING CIRCUMSTANCES: Extenuating circumstances are considered to be significant life experiences that impacted
your emotional and/or physical health so much that you were unable to make good academic progress while meeting SAP.
Examples of significant extenuating circumstances are below and should include supporting documentation:






Medical Illness and/or injury (supported by medical documentation)
Death in Immediate Family: parent, spouse, child, grandparents, siblings, aunts or uncles (supported by copy of death certificate
AND/OR obituary)
Call to active military duty (supported by copy of military orders)
Legal problems or police matters
Foreclosure or eviction
Documentation from Faculty member for last date of attendance
STEP 4: (Financial Aid Only) ACADEMIC PLAN: (Please initial)
You must complete the following academic plan every semester in order to be eligible for Financial Aid. The plan below is
designed to ensure that you will be able to meet SAP or graduate by a specific point in time. The plan will be reviewed at the end
of every term.
___I must make at least a 2.0 semester GPA in the courses that I am taking this semester.
___I must complete all of my courses with (no D’s, F’s, W’s or I’s). I must complete all of my courses with a ‘C’ or better.
___I understand that I may be recommended to participate in at least 2 hours of tutoring per week in the Academic Learning Center (ALC) this semester as a
condition of my appeal.
STEP 5: CERTIFICATION: I certify all the above information submitted is accurate. I further understand that incomplete appeal forms,
including those with missing or insufficient documentation, will be denied. I fully understand that approved appeals will have conditions
established in the approval of the appeal, and that those conditions must be met to be considered for future aid.
