2:10 pm on Sept. 18, for Section 2. Arrange your own transportation (car pool) or take CyRide.

Draw a flow diagram of the Ames Water Treatment Plant showing each treatment unit,
chemicals dosing points and chemicals used.
A useful design parameter is the usage of water on a per capita basis. Based on the
information given during the visit, estimate the actual usage of water in terms of gallons
per capita per day.
Explain why lime is used as a coagulant for the treatment of the groundwater?
What operating parameter(s) is used by Ames Water Treatment Plant to initiate the
backwash of their filters?
What other operating parameters may be used to determine when it is time to
backwash the filters?
