CERTIFICATION PREPARATION
Catalog Description:
68 - Certification Preparation
(May be repeated 3 times)
0.5-2 units
Welding process preparation for certification exams including the theory of American Welding Society
D1.1, American Society of Mechanical Engineers Section IX, American Petroleum Institute 1104,
includes laboratory practice in skills needed to take these exams. 1.5 to 6 hours laboratory.

Expected Outcomes for Students:
Upon completion of the course, the student should be able to:

prepare the materials per code specifications for welding;
demonstrate proficient welds in two positions for the code selected;
complete a certification examination to required standards.
Course Content:
1. Welding skills required by a specific welding test or welding position in accordance with qualification
specifications
2. Techniques of welding using FCAW, GMAW, GTAW, and SMAW processes
3. Identification, critique, and methods of correcting discontinuities and defects as defined by code
specifications
