ADVANCED WELDING SKILLS LABORATORY
Catalog Description:
67B - Advanced Welding Skills Laboratory
(May be repeated three times)
2 units
Advanced development and improvement of practical welding skills using SMAW, FCAW,
MIG GMAW and GTAW. Strongly recommended: Welding Technology 64B and Welding Technology
65B or equivalent. 6 hours laboratory.
[Typical contact hours: laboratory 105]
Prerequisite Skills:

Expected Outcomes for Students:
Upon completion of the course, the student should be able to:

handle welding and shop equipment in a safe manner;
identify common metals, metal alloys and their properties;
demonstrate proper usage of welding power supply;
correctly identify and use electrodes, flux-core wires and welding consumables;
identify hazardous material and apply safety norms in shop environment;
perform sound welding tests in flat, horizontal, vertical and overhead positions using SMAW,
GTAW, GMAW and FCAW processes according to AWS codes;
7. properly maintain shop and welding equipment.

a. Perform welds of plates in 3G and 4G positions
b. Perform destructive testing on welds
c. Inspect welds for discontinuities and defects
d. Students are assigned selected projects to develop occupational entry level skills
