Chabot College September, 1999 Course Outline for Welding Technology 65B ADVANCED TIG, MIG, AND BLUEPRINT READING Catalog Description: 65B – Advanced TIG, MIG, and Blueprint Reading (May be repeated three times) 3 units Advanced skill development in TIG (GTAW) and MIG (GMAW) welding of ferrous and non-ferrous alloys in the vertical and overhead positions according to the American Welding Society (AWS) codes. Advanced blueprint reading and fitting of ferrous and non-ferrous alloys. Hazardous material regulations. Prerequisite: Welding Technology 65A or equivalent. 1 hour lecture, 6 hours laboratory. Prerequisite Skills: Upon entering the course, the student should be able to: 1 identify oxyfuel equipment and supplies; 2 identify non-ferrous and ferrous alloys; 3 demonstrate safe and proper use of TIG/MIG (GTAW/GMAW) equipment; 4 interpret blueprints, layout, fit and weld non-ferrous and steel alloys; 5 demonstrate proper and safe techniques for oxyfuel and plasma cutting of metals; 6 interpret basic blueprints for TIG/MIG (GTAW/GMAW) welding processes; 7 identify and interpret material safety data sheets and hazardous materials regulations; 8 demonstrate TIG/MIG (GTAW/GMAW), welding of non-ferrous and ferrous alloys in the flat, horizontal and vertical positions according to AWS codes; 9 identify TIG/MIG (GTAW/GMAW) difficulties and propose corrective procedures. Expected Outcomes for Students: Upon completion of the course, the student should be able to: 1 demonstrate TIG/MIG welding procedures in the vertical and overhead position; 2 interpret and draw advanced blueprints; 3 demonstrate layout, fitting and welding of ferrous and non-ferrous alloys; 4 demonstrate safe and proper use of plasma and oxyfuel cutting; 5 identify and interpret material safety data sheets and hazardous material regulations; Course Content 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6.
