Chabot College Fall 2010 Course Outline for Physical Education 10 GET FIT WITH TECHNOLOGY Catalog Description: 10 – Get Fit with Technology 2 units Designed to help students attain a greater understanding of fitness and wellness while utilizing Global Positioning Technology (gps). Designed to develop fitness and well-being in a flexible manner utilizing technology as a guide in the process. Students will utilize global positioning technology along with online learning to develop and implement a solid personal cardiovascular fitness and wellness program. Strong computer skills and the access to a handheld global positioning device are required. 1 hour lecture, 3 hours laboratory. [Typical contact hours 17.5 lecture, 52.5 hours lab] Prerequisite Skills: None Expected Outcomes for Students: Upon completion of the course, the student should be able to: 1. identify the behaviors and attitudes needed to obtain optimal physical wellness and cardiovascular health; 2. describe how utilizing target heart rate and activity on a consistent basis will lead to greater overall health and wellness; 3. navigate and locate fitness activities utilizing handheld global positioning; 4. explain methods of developing and maintaining physical health utilizing the latest innovations in technology; 5. explain the process and consequences of inactivity and poor diet. 6. develop a personal strategy for physical fitness and weight management; 7. describe the role of exercise, diet and prevention in lifestyle to lower the incidence of heart disease, adult type II diabetes and stroke; 8. explain the physiology of cardiovascular training.
