PHYSICAL FITNESS ASSESSMENTS
Catalog Description:
PHED 6 – Physical Fitness Assessments
May be repeated 3 times.
.5 units
Physical Fitness Assessments will measure body composition, flexibility, muscular strength and
endurance. Students will develop and understand a summary of their fitness status, as well as an
exercise prescription to maintain or improve their physical fitness level. 9 one hour lectures
Prerequisite Skills:
None
Expected outcomes for students:
Upon completion of the course the student should be able to:
1. identify what his/her fitness level is;
2. exhibit knowledge of personal health history information by developing a personal health and
fitness appraisal;
3. display knowledge of the appropriate baseline testing procedure based on his/ her goals and
needs by writing a personal guideline report;
4. articulate their personal exercise prescription;
5. identify areas for improvement in diet and exercise routine;
6. interpret the various ways in which fitness is used as a vehicle for one’s health and well being;
7. exhibit levels of improvement in specific areas of body composition, flexibility, muscular
strength and endurance and cardio respiratory efficiency.

6. Guidelines for an individual exercise prescription
7. Strategies for successful fitness program
8. Group health and fitness activities
