GENTLE STRETCH & RELAXATION
Catalog Description:
PHED 2GSR – Gentle Stretch & Relaxation
1 unit
This course is designed to present to the student a selection of stretching and strengthening exercises that
will promote strength, flexibility, balance, and coordination in a relaxing atmosphere. Through consistent
practice, the student will improve in strength, will become aware of improved breathing patterns and
methods of relaxation. The class will meet 2 hours per week.
Prerequisite Skills:
None
Expected Outcomes for the Students:
Upon completion of the course the student will be able to:
1. perceive improved flexibility, strength, and relaxation;
2. demonstrate improved balance;
3. practice relaxation techniques with confidence.
Course Content:
1. Selected exercises to promote flexibility, strength, and stress reduction.
2. Techniques of relaxation.
3. Techniques to increase relaxation and flexibility.
Methods of Presentation:
Verbal explanation and demonstration.
Assignments and Methods of Evaluating Student Progress:
Class attendance and participation, demonstrated proficiency of exercise

Special Student Material:
Appropriate physical education attire.
