Chabot College September, 1998 Course Outline for Physical Education 2 GENTLE STRETCH & RELAXATION Catalog Description: PHED 2GSR – Gentle Stretch & Relaxation 1 unit This course is designed to present to the student a selection of stretching and strengthening exercises that will promote strength, flexibility, balance, and coordination in a relaxing atmosphere. Through consistent practice, the student will improve in strength, will become aware of improved breathing patterns and methods of relaxation. The class will meet 2 hours per week. Prerequisite Skills: None Expected Outcomes for the Students: Upon completion of the course the student will be able to: 1. perceive improved flexibility, strength, and relaxation; 2. demonstrate improved balance; 3. practice relaxation techniques with confidence. Course Content: 1. Selected exercises to promote flexibility, strength, and stress reduction. 2. Techniques of relaxation. 3. Techniques to increase relaxation and flexibility. Methods of Presentation: Verbal explanation and demonstration.
